Target: Brian Cornell, CEO of Target
Goal: Praise Target for planning to raise the minimum wage to $9.00 per hour.
Target is raising its minimum wage to $9.00 per hour next month, following the lead of corporations such as Wal-Mart. This move follows a series of protests and rallies led by labor groups around the country that demand a more livable wage.
After Wal-Mart raised its minimum wage to $9.00 per hour, T.J. Maxx and Marshalls owner TJX followed suit and raised its minimum wage. The pressure finally got to Target as well, and now employees are reaping the benefits. The Target wage increase will affect all 1,800 stores in the United States.
By increasing the employees’ wages, businesses such as Target and Wal-Mart will encourage employees to stay with their company and result in lower turnover rates of employees. It will also benefit the stores by giving them good publicity because no one wants to shop at a place that treats their employees badly. It is great to hear that more stores are realizing the benefits of treating their employees well.
While it would be great to see Target follow Wal-Mart’s footsteps and raise their minimum wage to $10.00/hour in the next year, this is a great start. Giving employees a more livable wage is the right thing to do and Target should be recognized for their actions so that others may be encouraged to do the same. Please sign the petition below and thank Target for raising their minimum wage.
Dear Mr. Brian Cornell,
I would like to thank you for your company’s decision to raise the minimum wage to $9.00 per hour. This will greatly help your employees by giving them what they deserve: a more livable wage.
Increasing employee wages not only lowers the employee turnover rate, but inspires others to shop at Target because they are confident that your company is treating their employees properly. This decision will benefit everyone involved.
I encourage you to continue making progress and I would like to see Target follow Wal-Mart by increasing the minimum wage to $10.00 per hour in the next year. Every employee deserves a salary that they can live on and your business will reap the benefits of this decision.
Thank you for your progressive stance on this issue and I hope to continue seeing Target make the effort to give the workers in this industry a better life.
