Praise Editor of The Guardian for Focusing on Climate Change

Target: Editor of The Guardian, Alan Rusbridger

Goal: Applaud The Guardian for focusing its efforts on climate change.

The editor of The Guardian has vowed to focus more on the environment and climate change until he steps down in summer 2015, stating that this is the story of our generation. With California in the midst of a drought, coupled with high pollution levels in China, India, and France, scientists are concerned that not enough is being done to stop climate change. Please sign this petition and praise this man for focusing on this pressing and crucial topic.

The Guardian has an average daily circulation of 200,000 in the United Kingdom, but has more than 9 million readers worldwide. To say that this news agency is well-read is an understatement. Editor Alan Rusbridger intends to use this massive readership to bring attention to a massive problem: climate change.

In an interview with NPR, the editor stated that climate change and the environment are topic that are all-encompassing, but subtle. Humans can already see the changes happening because of global warming, but because these changes are slow, humans are not reacting fast enough. Rusbridger composed a team of journalists to begin coverage of the environment because this is the story of our lifetime.

The Guardian intends to report on facts about climate change, but will also examine other views on the subject. Rusbridger did say that the agency will rely heavily on scientific reports instead of opinions. The website already boasts many articles and discussions on the subject of the environment, although Rusbridger stated that this focus could go away when he steps down.

Each nation is experiencing varied consequences due to climate change. Some are experiencing droughts, others heavy snowfall and flooding, but these weather patterns are not normal. If something isn’t done about climate change, human civilizations will not be prepared. Editor Rusbridger is forcing this topic to the foreground of our politics and economy, and he should be praised for this focus. Sign this petition and thank the editor for bringing our attention towards the well-being of our planet.

Dear Editor Alan Rusbridger,

You’ve been editor for The Guardian for 20 years now, and you’ve come to the conclusion that the news agency needs to focus its efforts on the environment and climate change. This topic has stirred much debate and controversy in schools, the economy, jobs, and the government. The vast majority of scientists believe that climate change is real, yet our governments are doing very little to solve this problem.

I am writing this letter to applaud you for this decision. Our environment is not our livelihood, but the livelihood of all creatures on this planet. It is time that humans began to care about and nurture our planet instead of destroying it. For solutions to be found, humans need to think about this problem, and I am grateful that The Guardian is stepping in to provide facts and opinions.
