Target: Chairman Cheryl A. LaFleur, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission
Goal: Prevent the construction of a destructive 360-mile petroleum pipeline.
Freshwater supplies, coveted wetlands, residential property, and a treasured historical site are in danger of a proposed pipeline, which would run into four states. This kind of infrastructure will only benefit the dirty fossil fuel company in charge. Help save land and natural sources from the potentially devastating effects of this pipeline.
Kinder Morgan, the company hoping to construct this lengthy pipeline, wants to pump 167,000 barrels of fuel per day. The Palmetto Pipeline will begin in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, make its way through South Carolina and Georgia, and then end in Jacksonville, Florida. So many communities are at risk because of this project. Kinder Morgan has already requested a certificate to issue imminent domain on private property, meaning that Kinder Morgan can invade land without the homeowner’s consent.
Pipeline spills can have a devastating impact on the health of local citizens and wildlife, and Kinder Morgan has been responsible for approximately 180 spills, mishaps, and fires since 2003. A spill on this pipeline’s route could destroy precious natural areas and water supplies, as the pipeline would bisect the watersheds of five major rivers and wetlands. A spill could potentially pollute drinking water and destroy sensitive ecosystems. Also, the pipeline wants to invade a Revolutionary War battle site known as Brier Creek, where 150 Americans died and were buried. The integrity of America’s natural and historical areas will suffer greatly from this project.
By signing this petition, you are urging the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to deny Kinder Morgan’s request to construct this dirty pipeline.
Dear Chairman LaFleur,
Drinking water, historical land, and native wetlands are in danger from Kinder Morgans’s Palmetto Pipeline. The pipeline will threaten communities and inevitably degrade natural resources. This company has been responsible for 180 fires, evacuations, and spills since 2003—there is no guarantee that this pipeline will not spill and harm our land and water. Wetlands and watersheds should be coveted, not put at risk.
You must deny Kinder Morgan’s request for this petroleum transport. This pipeline would be detrimental to the community. The construction will disturb land and the operation will only support the dirty non-renewable energy company. Please save the land in four states from this 360-mile pipeline.
