Target: Ray Umashankar
Goal: Praise a man for educating women and girls who have been rescued from a life of sex trafficking.
It is estimated that up to 60 million Indian men, women, and young children are forced into a life of hard labor and sex trafficking. These jobs range from working in sweatshops to sex slavery. Sadly, millions of women and young children are victims of sex slavery every year. Thankfully, an Indian man named Ray Umashankar has taken it upon himself to educate the thousands of women and children rescued from human trafficking.
Working with a program called Achieving Sustainable Social Equality through Technology (ASSET) India Foundation, Umashankar has helped educate thousands of women and children rescued from human trafficking in India. Umashankar and his daughter, Nita, train girls who have been successfully rescued from sex trafficking. Umashankar’s program teaches young women English and wanted job skills such as knowledge in office work, technology, and data entry. He believes that these skills will open opportunities that would otherwise be closed off to them.
Umashankar works hard to raise awareness of his mission and help bring in donations. In 2008, he was awarded the Purpose Prize, an award given to inspiring individuals who are at least 60 years old who help fix social problems with creative methods. He has been able to use his prize to help raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for his projects. He is continually coming up with projects that will further help women and children learn their rights and how to protect themselves from human traffickers.
Please sign this petition to thank Ray Umashankar for everything that he is done to help women and children in India.
