Target: Scott Baltz, Arkansas House of Representatives
Goal: Support the use of a panic button to alert emergency services in public schools.
Arkansas has unveiled preliminary plans to implement a panic button in school districts. State Representative Scott Baltz is calling it the School Safety Act of 2015, in which educators will have access to an application allowing them to instantly contact authorities in the event of an emergency. The proposed bill would significantly cut down on the time it takes to contact emergency services, saving many lives in the process. Support Scott Baltz in his plans to make Arkansas schools safer through the use of an advanced emergency services tool.
Due to several school shootings and other incidents in which emergency services could not arrive in time, a panic button is an excellent solution. Staff members would no longer need to contact a front office before calling 911 and emergency services could take control of the situation much sooner than in the past. Over the years, this safety feature is expected to save lives and bring ease to the process of contacting life-saving services.
Training would be required and only certain staff members would have the ability to download the application. The proposed bill is still in the preliminary stages and much has yet to be determined, but it is safe to say this idea shows plenty of promise.
Please sign this petition to support the proposed bill and applaud Arkansas’s commitment to safety in schools.
Dear Mr. Baltz,
The tentative plans to introduce a safety feature that instantly alerts emergency services is a huge step forward regarding safety in schools. Past events have indicated the need for an improved method of seeking immediate help in every type of situation. I applaud and support the proposed bill to implement a panic button in Arkansas school districts.
Giving the right staff members the power to tap a panic button and immediately receive assistance is an excellent resource. It will provide a much-needed sense of relief for educators and parents everywhere. More importantly, it may be precisely what is needed to save the lives of innocent children and educators.
Unfortunately, it’s nearly impossible to prepare for every type of emergency that may occur. The use of a panic button, however, is one of the best precautionary measures to date. The benefits of implementing this safety feature will far outweigh any dollar amount. I applaud your commitment to safety in school districts and this groundbreaking use of technology.
