Target: Utah House of Representatives member, Brian M. Greene
Goal: Pass legislation to ban discrimination against LGBT residents.
Utah is looking to ban discrimination against the LGBT community, while also protecting religious rights. The bill is backed by a Mormon church and is described as an excellent balance between religious and LGBT rights. The progress thus far is promising, but the proposal is not without critics. Urge Republican Brian Greene to vote in favor of this legislation and take a stand for religious and LGBT rights.
The Utah State Senate has already approved the bill and Governor Herbert has announced his plan to approve the legislation. The last obstacle lies with the House of Representatives and several conservatives who are not satisfied with all the bill does for the religious rights of churches. The Mormon Church itself has, however, expressed great satisfaction with the implications of the proposal and public support is overwhelmingly positive.
Brian M. Greene is among the few republicans in opposition, claiming the bill does not do enough to protect the religious rights of churches. Though Greene would like to see more progress in the category of religious rights, this is still an excellent opportunity to bridge the gap between two groups with a history of opposing views. A huge leap forward for both religious and LGBT rights is possible.
Please sign this petition to urge Republican Brian Greene to vote in favor of legislation to protect religious rights and ban discrimination against the LGBT community.
Dear Mr. Greene,
Much of Utah has voiced their support to ban discrimination against the LGBT community while protecting religious rights. What lies before you is a momentous decision that could significantly impact society in a positive way. I urge you to sign this bill and take a stand for both religious and LGBT rights.
As a conservative state, Utah has an opportunity to allow religious institutions to continue their practices in a manner they are comfortable with while allowing citizens the freedom to be themselves in this progressive day and age. The passage of this legislation is a significant step toward a much-needed statewide ban on discrimination that can only improve the quality of life in Utah.
Unfortunately, it is all too rare to come across legislation designed to benefit all involved, attempting to negotiate within everyone’s comfort zone. This bill does just that, as demonstrated by the mass support from churches and LGBT citizens. I ask you to sign on to this legislation to benefit religious and LGBT rights and vow to protect the rights of all Utah citizens.
