Legalize Medical Marijuana Nationwide

Target: Speaker of the House John Boehner

Goal: Legalize medical marijuana in the United States.

Three American senators are crafting a bill that would legalize medical marijuana in the United States. Ever since Colorado made it legal for residents to smoke marijuana for recreational use, many citizens and lawmakers have been pushing to legalize the drug for medical use. While there are some politicians who are against this law, the majority of Americans are pushing for the legalization of medical marijuana due to its ability to numb pain. Urge Speaker of the House John Boehner to approve this bill and make this drug acceptable for patients.

The bill, which was crafted by Senators Rand Paul, Cory Booker, and Kirsten Gillibrand, has several key points. The bill would make it easier for banks to do business with the marijuana industry, make it easier to transport the drug through state lines, allow doctors to prescribe marijuana to veterans, and classify the drug as a Schedule 2 in the Controlled Substance Act. Essentially, the bill would make it more accessible for American citizens who need marijuana for medicinal purposes.

The bill wouldn’t necessarily make marijuana legal, however. The opposition to make marijuana legal as a recreational drug is still strong, but the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration stated that the current classification of marijuana makes it difficult to conduct research on cannabis.

If this bill is passed, not only will it allow scientists to conduct research, but it would put states on the same page regarding marijuana usage. It’s estimated that the marijuana industry would also bring in revenue for the entire nation. Sign this petition to support the legalization of medical marijuana in the United States.

Dear Speaker of the House John Boehner,

It has come to my attention that three senators have crafted a bill that would legalize marijuana for medical use. Recent studies have suggested that this drug is not only beneficial for those who experience chronic pain, but its effects are not as dangerous as alcohol, which is heavily consumed by the American populace. Many would benefit from this bill, including veterans who suffer from chronic pain and PTSD. With at least 90 percent of the populace supporting the use of medical marijuana, I believe it is time to allow Americans access to this drug.

While I understand that this law wouldn’t make marijuana legal, it would keep states on the same page regarding its usage. States such as Oregon and Colorado allow marijuana to be used in recreation, whereas California, Nevada, and Arizona only allow it for medicinal purposes. This drug has great potential to help those who are suffering from pain, and as a recreational drug, it is not as destructive as alcohol. I urge you to sign this bill into law so those who require marijuana for pain relief can use it immediately.
