Target: Tennessee Governor, Bill Haslam
Goal: Don’t cut necessary mental health care for tens of thousands of citizens.
TennCare, Medicaid in Tennessee, faces possible budget cuts that would result in several jobs lost and tens of thousands without necessary mental health care. The proposal would cut millions of dollars in TennCare, in a misguided attempt to save money. Urge Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam to reject the proposal and vow not to cut mental health care for so many.
Mental health care officials argue the budget cuts will ultimately result in Tennessee spending more money. With nowhere else to turn, the state will see an increase in mentally ill citizens in hospitals and jails. Aside from the inevitably large sums of money lost to band-aid solutions, the emotional effects on Tennessee at large are cause for concern.
Tens of thousands currently receive life-changing mental health services from the state of Tennessee. Should budget cuts occur, many lives would be turned upside down, including the family and friends of those currently receiving care. Work performance will suffer as a direct result of jobs lost and a lack of necessary mental health services.
Although cuts to TennCare would provide an immediate budget solution, these cuts would quickly lead to more problems than before. Please sign the petition below to urge Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam to reject this proposal and continue mental health care services for tens of thousands of Tennessee citizens.
Dear Governor Haslam,
The recent proposal to implement budget cuts to TennCare offers a poor solution that will ultimately hurt the state of Tennessee. I urge you to strike down this proposal and ensure citizens continue to receive necessary mental health services.
Tens of thousands of citizens currently receive services from TennCare that have significantly improved their quality of life. In the absence of mental health care, many of these individuals will inevitably end up in hospitals and jails. This not only hurts their lives and those around them, but the state as a whole.
There is a positive correlation between work performance and mental stability that will be significantly impacted if these services disappear. Tennessee’s plan to save millions of dollars will be short-lived when the aforementioned side effects take place. Tens of thousands of citizens without necessary mental health services is enough of an impact, but unfortunately, the negative effects will not stop there. Far too many citizens will be severely impacted by these dangerous budget cuts. Please do everything in your power to ensure mental health services are not cut and take a stand for the state of Tennessee.
