Target: Speaker of the House, John Boehner
Goal: Raise the wages of primary teachers in America.
A chart released by The Washington Post found that primary teachers in America make far too little in comparison to other countries around the world. It shouldn’t be surprising, as the United States spends so little on education as it is. It is time the nation placed more effort and resources towards teaching the young. Sign this petition and urge Speaker of the House John Boehner to raise the wage earnings for primary teachers in America.
According to The Washington Post, primary teachers in the United States make roughly $13.10 per hour. Other nations, such as the United Kingdom, Argentina, Spain, and the Netherlands pay their teachers much higher salaries. In Belgium, such teachers earn up to $20 an hour. This means that Belgians make 60 percent more money than American teachers who teach the same grade. Why is there such a huge disparity in wage earnings for teachers?
The simple answer is the United States hasn’t invested as many resources and time into education. Many developed nations provide their students with free higher education, but President Obama has only recently suggested giving community college for free. Even this action has met strong opposition by conservatives in Congress. For decades, American citizens have argued that teachers are underpaid, and rightly so.
Teachers are expected to watch over a dozen or so children, grade their papers, teach lessons, meet with unruly parents, and do more work when they are at home. The job is demanding, stressful, and sometimes teachers go home unappreciated. It is time that teachers were given the pay that they deserve, instead of being treated unfairly. If you believe that our teachers should be paid more, make your point known to Speaker of the House John Boehner by signing this petition.
Dear Speaker of the House John Boehner,
A chart released by The Washington Post shows that other developed nations provide primary teachers with higher wage earnings. This angers me, as our teachers are placed under a lot of stress and are given a massive amount of work. Many teachers stay longer than the eight hours they are supposed to work, or take their work home with them. For teaching students, putting in longer hours, and taking work home with them, teachers deserve a higher wage.
I believe that the United States should place more value in obtaining an education, and this starts with providing more for our educators. Education should be a huge priority in the United States, and I hope you agree. Our students can only be as smart and as devoted as our teachers. I implore you to give higher earnings to primary teachers in America, as these educators are teaching our young important life lessons.
