Applaud Government for Protecting Aged Animals

Target: Eknath Khadse, Maharashtra Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Minister

Goal: Applaud government for setting up shelters to house unproductive and aged cattle.

A recent bill in Maharashtra, India, banned the slaughter of cows, bullocks and bulls. However, this ban would place a strain on the local government to house and take care of the animals who are protected by the bill. Fortunately, the government is setting up three shelters in order to house the unproductive and aged cattle who might not otherwise have care.

The state government is working together with local animal welfare organizations to coordinate the shelters. Thanks to this collaboration, the government will not have to dip into funds received as donations from private citizens. The state is also in the process of applying for grants to set up and maintain the shelters.

Leaving these older animals in the dust could have been a step back in the process of this positive and progressive bill, but knowing that they will be cared for is something to applaud. Not only will these creatures be free from the threat of slaughter, they will also not be left to wander around and starve.

The government’s actions are a constructive step towards bettering the lives of animals, and this will hopefully send a message to other governments to follow suit. By signing this petition, you will help to congratulate the Maharashtra government in standing up for animal welfare and taking responsibility for caring for animals who may not be able to care for themselves.

Dear Minister Khadse,

The recent ban on the slaughter of cows, bullocks and bulls in your state of Maharashtra was a hugely beneficial move towards bettering the welfare of animals. Although this ban could have placed a strain on the local government in caring for the animals protected by the ban, I applaud you for making the effort to ensure these animals are cared for.

Too often, helpless animals are abandoned and left without food or shelter. Thanks to your collaboration with local animal welfare groups, these animals will have not just one, but three shelters where they will have adequate protection and food. I hope that your positive stance will send a message to other governments to follow suit in protecting the lives of animals who may not be able to protect themselves. Thank you for setting up these shelters.

  1. THAT’S a nice surprise! I only hope this lovely sounding plan doesn’t turn into something ugly and sinister, as so many human-contrived ideas do. I’ll be holding my breath…
