Punish Alleged Puppy Mill That Left Animals Out in the Cold

Target: Laura Mackasey, Agent at the Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals

Goal: Enforce the full penalty for alleged puppy mill that left 38 animals out in the freezing cold without food, water or shelter.

Thirty-eight animals were found left out in the freezing cold on a farm–including newborn puppies, pregnant dogs, rabbits, and a cat–by the Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Two of the animals were found dead.

The animals were discovered after the OSPCA received a call about supposed animal abuse involving a donkey at the farm, but the organization never found the donkey. The organization thinks the animals were part of an abusive puppy mill.

There was no food out to feed the animals. Water bowls had been left out, but it was so cold the water had frozen. It was one of the coldest winters the area has seen, and there was no visible shelter provided for the poor creatures. The Star reported that the rabbits had lacerations on their legs and one may need eye surgery.

According to Canadian law, “If convicted of animal abuse and depending on the charges, a person could face a maximum fine of $60,000, six months in jail and a life-time ban on owning animals.” It is a huge relief that these animals were able to be rescued, but this kind of horrific animal abuse cannot be tolerated. Demand the barbaric owners of this farm receive the maximum penalty for leaving these animals to die out in the cold.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Agent Mackasey,

Thirty-eight animals including newborn puppies, pregnant dogs, rabbits, and a cat were found out in the freezing cold on a farm that may have been a puppy mill. Two of the animals were sadly already dead when they were discovered. If this farm really was a puppy mill, it could mean these people are so wrapped up in the money that they try to commit a crime like this again.

According to Canadian law, “If convicted of animal abuse and depending on the charges, a person could face a maximum fine of $60,000, six months in jail and a life-time ban on owning animals.” I’m so grateful your team was able to rescue these animals, and this kind of horrific animal abuse cannot be tolerated. I urge you to punish the barbaric owners of this farm with the maximum penalty for committing animal abuse by leaving these creatures to die out in the cold.

Sincerely,
