Don’t Terminate Obamacare

Target: Speaker of the House John Boehner

Goal: Do not allow Congress to abolish the Affordable Care Act.

The Supreme Court will soon decide the fate of the Affordable Care Act, otherwise known as Obamacare, which provides millions in the United States with healthcare coverage. Those who have been against the action are conservatives who believe that state laws provide enough coverage for those in need. However, recent studies have found that state insurance is too much of a hassle or is nonexistent, and does not provide low-income citizens with health insurance. For those who are struggling, Obamacare has become something that many families depend on. Do not allow Congress to abolish this act.

According to The Washington Post, Obamacare provides subsidized health insurance for those whose income ranges between $11,500 and $46,680 annually for individuals, or $35,850 to $95,400 for families. What is surprising is that millions of Americans in the south rely on Obamacare for health insurance. In states such as Wyoming, Florida, and Georgia, as much as 90-94 percent of Americans rely on insurance plans with financial assistance. In states like Louisiana and Texas, about 85-89 percent of Americans rely on the same types of insurance plans. These subsidized health insurance plans can cut costs by about 70 percent depending on how much the individual is making. Unfortunately, senators from some of these states wish to abolish Obamacare because some states already have existing coverage.

However, this is not entirely true. Nevada, New Mexico, and Oregon are experiencing trouble with their insurance plans and are relying on the federal government to provide its citizens with health insurance. Other states do rely on federal assistance for their health care and if the Supreme Court decides to remove financial assistance to the 34 states in the court case, millions of Americans will be without health insurance.

Those who are affected are low-income citizens who are working jobs such as a busser, waiter, or a cook. Some of these people have families and are struggling. Sign this petition and tell Speaker of the House John Boehner to terminate Congress’ plan to end the Affordable Care Act. There are millions of Americans who depend on health insurance and it would not be humane or ethical to remove this assistance.

Dear Speaker of the House John Boehner,

I find it absolutely infuriating that Congress wishes to abolish the Affordable Care Act. This act provided many low-income Americans with affordable health care, and yet Congress wishes to remove this assistance. Millions of Americans will suffer if Obamacare is terminated, and I do not think it is ethical or moral for Congress to do this.

Other social welfare acts include retirement, Social Security and Medicare — all of which have been supported by the government and the public. Why are Americans with low income being denied health care? Yes, some states provide insurance for those in need, but some states are experiencing problems and are relying on the federal government for aid. Do not place struggling Americans in a worse situation. Do not terminate the Affordable Care Act.
