Urge China to Stop Controlling the Internet

Target: President of China, Xi Jinping

Goal: Urge China to stop censoring and controlling the internet.

China is known for its strict and tight control over information, and the nation hasn’t hesitated in controlling the internet. China is concerned that giving citizens access to such a wide repository of information and discussion will cause the government to crumble. Recently, the government has lead the largest crackdown ever, limiting users access to their emails. It has impaired the economy and is in severe violation of human rights. Demand President Xi Jinping stop censoring the internet and allow citizens to access the world wide web freely and without harassment.

Substantial Games, a small start-up company, has experienced problems accessing its emails and it is crucial for the company to be in touch with its donors. Pin Wang, who is the president of the company, states that it takes him three to five minutes to access his email because of Chinese authorities censoring all of his information. Unfortunately, it is not just Wang’s company that is suffering. While China has a relatively strong economy, the country’s universities and businesses cannot compete because of the strict control over information.

Communist leaders are concerned that if citizens get access to Western ideology, they will topple the government. Journalists and business companies who inquire about corruption or spread Western ideals have been taken in for questioning or otherwise harassed by the police. Even foreign companies that wish to make a profit in China have been raided by security forces and forced to pay excessive fines for spreading Western ideals.

As human beings, we should be free to share and discuss our ideas. The country shouldn’t have authority over what a person can view and access. This recent crackdown is considered by experts to be the worst one China has experienced in a decade. Sign this petition and urge President Xi Jinping to stop the government from interfering with internet access.

Dear President Xi Jinping,

Your government initiated a severe crackdown on the internet, inconveniencing citizens by drastically limiting their access to information. Citizens’ internet activity has also been continuously monitored. This policy has infuriated many citizens and nations around the world. There is corruption afoot, as no country should ever have authority over what its people see or view. If citizens have new ideals from being exposed to new information and wish to change the government then the government should change.

Your citizens have every right to view whatever they wish on the internet, despite the government’s qualms. This new crackdown is hurting businesses, education, religion, and the nation as a whole. This action must stop immediately, as this internet crackdown violates a person’s right to privacy and freedom of expression. I urge you to halt the Chinese government’s interference and allow your citizens full, uncensored access to the internet.
