Target: Madison Chief of Police, Larry Muncey
Goal: Fire police officer who allegedly slammed a man to the ground, temporarily paralyzing him.
A police officer in Madison, Alabama was allegedly caught on video slamming an Indian man to the ground, leaving the man to be temporarily paralyzed and hospitalized with fused vertebrae.
A neighbor in the area reportedly called the police to report a suspicious man looking in garages. Eric Parker, the Madison police officer, allegedly attacked Sureshbhai Patel, not knowing that he could not speak English and did not understand the commands of the police officer. Even so, Parker had no right to hold Patel’s hands behind his back and slam his face into the pavement as seen in the gruesome video. Sureshbhai Patel was not guilty of any crime and was most likely targeted because of his skin.
His son, Chirag Patel, said that his father, Sureshbhai Patel, was visiting his son’s home to help him and his wife care for their new baby so that he could attend the University of Alabama in Huntsville to and get his master’s degree in electrical engineering.
Police officers need to stop being so quick to use brutal force. Many police officers are capable of knowing when this force may be needed, but others use force as a primary and not a secondary method of solving conflict. Please sign the petition below and urge the Madison Chief of Police to fire Eric Parker for his brutal actions.
Dear Chief Muncey,
The video of Eric Parker allegedly slamming an Indian man and subsequently paralyzing him is gruesome to watch. Sureshbhai Patel was doing nothing wrong and did not speak any English. Police officer Eric Parker showed a severe lack of judgement with his actions.
Police officers should protect us at all times, but it becomes a problem when they use force recklessly and cause serious harm to innocent people. Patel is still in the hospital and currently cannot use all of his limbs due to the incident. He was only visiting his son and his wife in order to help with their new born baby so that his son could attend school for a master’s degree. Now, his son must take care of his newborn and his father.
I am requesting that you fire Eric Parker for his unnecessary use of force against this innocent man and hold all police officers accountable for their actions. We do not need police officers who attack first and think later.
