Stop Construction of Cruel Monkey Breeding Farm

Target: Janet B. Taylor, Hendry County Board of County Commissioners

Goal: Stop the construction of a cruel monkey breeding facility.

Prelabs is in the process of building another breeding facility in Hendry County, FL, where monkeys will be bred at accelerating rates for research purposes. Sadly, Prelabs is planning on locking up over 3,000 macaques after kidnapping them from Mauritius Island.

Although Prelabs has stated in the past that they would do less animal testing on primates, the construction of this new facility suggest the company is now going back on its word. One test that Prelabs performs is giving monkeys extreme amounts of chemicals in order to determine how long it takes before those monkeys succumb to agonizing and painful deaths. Breeding farms like Prelabs also tattoo monkeys without giving them anesthesia, take frightened infants away from their mothers, and even slam monkeys on the floor when they are found to be annoying. In fact, it was proven that all of these things were done by workers at Biodia, a company Prelabs does business with on a regular basis.

While some citizens claim that building a breeding facility will help create jobs, a closer look reveals that money and greed are the main culprits behind the move. After all, Prelabs received over $61,000 from the Food and Drug Administration for the purchase of only eight primates and crates.

Clearly, Prelabs has to be stopped right now. We simply cannot ethically condone massive amounts of primate breeding, only so more animals can be sent to labs for testing, nor can we condone the grotesque treatment of these innocent and beautiful creatures. Sign this petition and demand that the construction of this inhumane facility be stopped, immediately.

Dear Commissioner Taylor,

Since Prelabs already has other breeding facilities, there is absolutely no good reason why another breeding facility needs to be built. Taking thousands of monkeys from their natural environment for breeding purposes is an unethical practice.

Furthermore, giving monkeys an influx of chemicals in order to see exactly how long it takes them to die is an extremely inhumane process that most people do not condone. In fact, a number of people in the community have already expressed concerns and disapproval of the new facility so much so that they have already filed a lawsuit to try and stop construction.

Concerns range from inhumane treatment of the animals to being worried about an Ebola outbreak if one of the animals were to escape. Since a primate already escaped after Hurricane Andrew from Worldwide Primates, such fears are not unwarranted.

In conclusion, these monkeys deserve more than to be treated as mere commodities, and the citizens of your county deserve to live without the fear of a major Ebola outbreak. I therefore urge you to take action, and demand that Prelabs be forced to stop construction of this inhumane and highly destructive facility right now.
