Target: Peck Slip School’s Principal, Maggie Sienna
Goal: Encourage and applaud all-vegetarian menu for public school children.
There are officially two public schools in New York City that have adopted all-vegetarian menus. Peck Slip School (PSS) in lower Manhattan took meat off of its menu a year and a half ago, but just recently publicized its decision. With over a year to gauge the success of its movement, PSS was happy to announce an improvement in its students’ test scores and attention spans. Teaching children compassion and healthy eating is incredibly important, and most kids welcome the change in diet with open minds and hearts.
PSS’s principal, Maggie Sienna, is ecstatic about the improvements seen in the students. The decision was made for environmental and health reasons, Sienna noting that a large part of environmental degradation is linked to meat production and a diet rich in plants is extremely healthy. The children of PSS especially like kale salads, and have been extremely receptive to all different kinds of fruits and vegetables.
Too many American children are obese, a problem easily managed with proper diet and exercise. Childhood obesity rates have reached unprecedented levels; PSS is actively becoming part of the solution. Commend the school for its food activism, and urge it to spread its wisdom to other schools around the country.
Dear Ms. Sienna,
Peck Slip School is making history for its environmental and health decisions. Your students now eat a full vegetarian menu for school meals; this decision is pivotal for the health of the children and the planet. As you know, the meat industry is incredibly detrimental to the environment and the health of America. Too many American children are obese, a problem easily fixed with proper nutrition and exercise. A large part of the problem is learning institutions do not emphasize enough the importance of a healthy diet and lifestyle. Peck Slip School is working to turn this issue around by educating students about a plant-based diet.
There is another school in New York City which has also adopted a vegetarian diet: Public School 224. Peck Slip School and Public School 224 are changing the lives of numerous New York City students. Success of this caliber is most beneficial when shared, however. I urge you to partner with Public School 224 to convince many more schools of New York City to adopt a vegetarian menu.
Your influence has already been so profound; please share your wisdom to create a beautiful, healthy future.
