Target: Sam Brownbeck, Governor of Kansas
Goal: Demand resignation of anti-LGBT governor and protections for LGBT state employees and applicants.
Kansas state governor Sam Brownbeck has just removed all protections against discrimination for all LGBT state employees and applicants. This means that state employees can now be harassed, fired, or denied positions based on their sexual preference. This is an absolute outrage. Moves like this are no longer acceptable in our world and Governor Brownbeck has to be shown that things have changed. There can be no more state-sanctioned discrimination in a world where information is free and the public have a voice. Brownbeck must be forced to resign in shame, issue an apology to those he has put in danger, and reverse his actions immediately.
Brownbeck issued an executive order invalidating an earlier executive order that provided protection for all LGBT state workers and applicants against discrimination. Brownbeck claims that the order was overstepping executive bounds and that all issues of this nature had to go through the legislative branch. He also claims that the past executive order created “protected classes” and that all people should enjoy the same protections. The fact is, LGBT workers need more protections in places like Kansas because they are more actively discriminated against. Straight people don’t need special protections because no one cares if they’re straight. The fact that an executive order had to be issued in the first place is proof enough that it was necessary.
This is a despicable move that must be reversed immediately before harm can come to those that lost their protection. Regardless of whether or not the original executive order was overstepping executive bounds, the fact remains that this protective measure has been in place for almost ten years. Why on earth would a government remove protections from its citizens? Sam Brownbeck must be removed from office and this sad situation must be rectified. Sign here to express your anger and to help protect the people of Kansas from their own government.
Dear Governor Brownbeck,
It has come to my attention that you have recently invalidated a past executive order that protected LGBT state employees and applicants from discrimination. This is absolutely unacceptable and is nothing short of state-sponsored disrcimination. I am writing to demand your resignation along with a reversal of your policy and a formal apology to all LGBT state employees and applicants you have endangered.
Protections are put in place for a reason Governor Brownbeck: to protect people. While your dream of everyone enjoying equal protections is a pleasant one, it is simply infeasible at this moment as some groups are discriminated against more than others. Straight people don’t need to be protected from discrimination. Neither do white people. Neither do men. These things are straightforward and you understand them perfectly. Your claim that this was about executive overreach is as spurious as your claim to want true equality. I demand that you reverse this executive order and resign immediately. It should be easy for you to find a new job as a straight white man.
