Target: Apple CEO Tim Cook
Goal: Applaud the creation of a 100 percent solar-powered corporate headquarters.
Apple CEO Tim Cook just announced that the company’s newest headquarters will be entirely powered by solar energy coming from the solar farm they approved for construction recently. Citing the fact that the company acknowledges the existence of climate change, Cook presented this news by saying that “[t]he time for talk is past and the time for action is now.”
This is a huge step forward in the fight against climate change as Apple steps up as an example of what big companies can do to help curb the effects of global warming. Apple is doing its part to show that switching to solar energy is entirely possible, even for a large corporate building and data center. With storms, floods, and droughts getting worse all over the world, it’s absolutely true that it’s beyond time for actions like this that prove the reliability and effectiveness of clean energy sources like solar.
The construction of the new headquarters will be completed next year, at the same time that the corresponding California Flats Solar Project is finished. Before long, we’ll be able to point to a solid example of how well solar power works and urge other companies to make the switch. By signing this petition, you’ll thank Tim Cook for his commitment to green energy sources and the essential fight against global climate change.
Dear Mr. Cook,
I’ve heard about your announcement of a new Apple corporate headquarters and data center in California which will be entirely powered by solar energy from the California Flats Solar Project that you funded. This is fantastic news for the environment and everyone living on earth. It’s clear that you have a real commitment to fighting climate change, rather than giving it lip service like many CEOs of other companies tend to do.
Anyone who is paying attention can see that extreme weather events, from massive floods to terrible droughts, are currently ravaging communities and ecosystems around the world. People are starving from a lack of crops, falling ill from drinking dirty water, and losing their homes to storms. The widespread failure to act to mitigate climate change has already cost countless lives and will cost us many more. Your latest action to stop this chaos is extremely important.
Thank you for doing what you can to commit to clean energy sources that won’t contribute to climate change. You serve as a wonderful example of how big corporations can do their part to save lives. It’s my sincere hope that others will follow in your footsteps and switch to clean solar energy to power their buildings. If they come to care as much as you do, we stand a real chance of slowing or even stopping global warming and saving the planet.
