Target: Mary Jean Marsico, Rockland Board of Cooperative Educational Services District Superintendent
Goal: Fire the principal who allegedly verbally abuses her special needs students.
Principal Kimberly Taylor has been recorded verbally abusing her students at the New York’s K-8 special needs Hilltop School, yet is still enjoying employment. These children need to be protected from her treacherous abuse. Demand that the school district fire Principal Taylor immediately.
A former teaching assistant from the Haverstraw, New York school that caters to children who have learning disabilities and behavioral issues recently came forward with audio recordings of Principal Taylor’s alleged interactions with the students. In the recordings, Taylor can be heard treating the children with utter hate. At a briefing she held for students before a graduation ceremony, Taylor warns them to be on their best behavior. “I will embarrass you, you all know me, if you don’t give a [expletive], neither do I,” she said. “Cause guess what. Everyone knows this school is for kids that have behavior problems, so it will be a normal thing if we drag you down and pull you out.”
During an altercation at the rehearsal for the graduation, Taylor can be heard dragging one of the students to the front saying, “This is a retard. How embarrassing, a disgusting embarrassment, get him the hell out of my sight.” Addressing another student who had fallen down, she said ““Get your (expletive) up and be a man. God, for God’s sake, you animals, some of you.”
That this is verbal abuse should not even be up for debate. Taylor needs to be taken as far away from her students as possible. Sign the petition below to demand that Mary Jean Marsico, the superintendent for the school district Hilltop School is a part of, fire Taylor without delay.
Dear Superintendent Marsico,
I am writing you today to express concern for the students at Hilltop School under the authority of Principal Kimberly Taylor. I am outraged that you would let Taylor remain on the job after the alleged evidence of her abuse towards her students has been brought to your attention.
The website for Hilltop School says that “The program provides a predictable and positive learning environment so that students are able to acquire the skills necessary for both academic and social success.” The principal of the school calling the students “retards” and “animals,” and displaying an utter lack of respect for them, is at odds with that description.
According to you, though, this whole situation is not that big a deal. “The situation occurred more than three years ago. It involved a personnel matter that was addressed at that time. We maintain an outstanding academic program.” I don’t know how the Rockland BOCES sees this, but abuse is a “personnel matter” that can only be addressed by the termination of the person committing the abuse.
Don’t you care about your most vulnerable students? Your willingness to let a person who harms them stay on as principal says more about the answer to that question than your words ever could. I demand that you fire Taylor at once.
