Target: Alexandre de Juniac, CEO of Air France-KLM
Goal: Applaud airline’s sustainability efforts through use of biofuels.
Air travel releases more than 650 million metric tons of carbon pollution a year, which is equivalent to air pollution emitted from over 136 million cars. As the entire industry contemplates ways to reduce its carbon footprint, one airline company, Air France-KLM, has become the leading force in sustainability by using biofuels.
As the world fights to curb climate change and carbon pollution, air travel pollution has remained largely overlooked. However, the aviation industry, particularly Air France-KLM, has been the most proactive airline enterprise. So far, Air France-KLM has reworked its aircrafts to run on biodegradable oils extracted from plant sources, like algae, and has also participated in industry initiatives to advocate for sustainability certification and sourcing.
Furthermore, Air France-KLM has conducted several long-haul flights using aviation and biofuel blends, and is currently working to fly regularly scheduled flights on biofuels. Due to Air France-KLM’s efforts and influence, more than 40 commercial airlines around the world have adopted sustainable practices—flying about 600,000 miles in the last five years on biofuels and biofuel blends.
Air France-KLM is also credited with being one of the leading airline companies for sourcing sustainable biofuels as well. Sign the petition below to thank Air France-KLM’s CEO Alexandre de Juniac for fighting air pollution and cultivating a sustainable culture.
Dear Alexandre de Juniac,
It has recently come to my attention that Air France-KLM has adopted sustainable practices to lower its emissions and carbon footprint with biofuels. Today, air travel emits more than 650 million metric tons of carbon pollution into our environment.
The use of sustainably sourced biofuels and low-carbon fuels is essential to reducing our emissions in half by 2050, and Air France-KLM’s efforts to combat air pollution deserve to be applauded. The aviation sector has ignored its contribution to the growing problem of air pollution, however, your enterprise’s attention to developing a more sustainable culture is proof that carbon pollution could become obsolete in the coming years.
Thank you for rising to the challenge of curbing climate change and cutting carbon pollution by using biofuels and biofuel blends. Air France-KLM has made significant strides and I hope your influence continues to convince other airlines to follow suit.
