Demand Termination of Cop Who Beat Middle Schooler with a Baton

Target: Baltimore Police Commissioner Anthony W. Batts

Goal: Expel the officer who lied and used excessive force on middle school girls.

A school police officer reportedly beat a student over the head with a baton then pepper sprayed her two cousins in the face. The officer claimed the girls attacked her, but video evidence shows the officer lied. The girls were hospitalized because of their injuries, which included 10 stitches for one of the girls. The students were almost sent to juvenile booking and charged with assaulting an officer until the video surfaced invalidating the officer’s story.

During the changing of classes, the officer allegedly called one of the girls, Starr, to come over and promptly grabbed her by the arm. Starr’s cousin, Diamond, saw the altercation occurring and thought the officer was a fellow student attacking her cousin. When she came over to help, she realized it was an officer and an additional altercation ensued. This included Diamond being beat repeatedly over the head with a baton. In the video, a school administrator can be seen attempting to restrain the other two girls while the officer appears to pepper spray them in the face.

Originally the officer claimed she was punched, kicked and scratched, but the video surveillance seems to demonstrate that the girls almost in no way assaulted the officer. Although the assault charges against the girls have been dropped, they have since been suspended and sent to alternative schools for “troubled children.” Meanwhile, this officer has simply been reassigned to administrative duties for the time being.

Not only was a police officer entrusted with protecting the lives of middle school children caught in a lie, but they were caught in a lie about the justification in brutally beating and pepper spraying middle school girls. Sign the petition below to demand that this officer be promptly expelled from their position, as they are clearly unable to ensure the safety of these students.

Dear Commissioner Batts,

A school police officer allegedly beat a middle school student over the head with a baton, causing the student to bleed and require hospital attention and stitches. The same officer then pepper sprayed two other girls in the face. This officer lied about their reasoning for using such force, claiming these girls attacked her. However, video evidence proved this to be a lie. If it weren’t for the video evidence, these girls could be unjustly in a juvenile detention center on top of sustaining these injuries.

This officer only added insult to unnecessary injury in attempting to lie about the situation and their actions on the job. This alleged behavior proves that this officer is not fit for the line of duty. I urge you to expel this officer from their position immediately.
