Praise Company for Pulling Controversial Super Bowl Ad

Goal: Thank GoDaddy for deciding not to air its advertisement that glorifies the online sale of animals.

A popular domain name website, GoDaddy, recently decided not to air a commercial that encouraged the dangerous and abusive online sales of animals during the Super Bowl. The advertisement generated outrage among animal rights activists who claim that it makes light of selling puppies online. GoDaddy insists that its only intention was to make a funny commercial. Because the website’s effort was misconstrued and offensive, it did the right thing by declining to air the commercial during its allotted slot for the Super Bowl.

The commercial featured a golden retriever puppy that fell out of its owner’s pickup truck. After trudging through inclement weather and facing dangerous traffic, the puppy found its way back home. Its owner picked it up, delighted because she had just sold the puppy online and needed to ship it out the next day. The advertisement was considered a fun way to highlight diverse websites that have purchased a domain name from GoDaddy. However, the commercial brought light to the sad, yet realistic life of animals bred to be sold online and shipped.

Purchasing dogs online from a breeder is often not a humane way to acquire a companion. Adopting a dog from the shelter or visiting the puppy at its home to see its living situation are positive steps toward ending inhumane breeding practices. Sign this petition to praise GoDaddy for declining to air its controversial Super Bowl commercial.

I am writing to thank you for declining to air GoDaddy’s Super Bowl commercial due to its controversial content. As you are now aware, glorifying breeders who sell puppies online supports inhumane and irresponsible breeding practices. The fact that you acknowledged this issue and responded in a positive way is incredible. Thank you for being a great example for other companies’ commercials.

Your Super Bowl advertisement was supposed to be funny. However, there is nothing funny about a breeder choosing to sell his or her puppies online and ship them. I believe that it would be very beneficial for GoDaddy to speak out against dog breeders who use inhumane mediums to sell their puppies. Supporting animal shelters in your area, or even running a commercial that encourages pet adoption would be a powerful message of compassion.

Thank you again for understanding the severity of this issue. I hope you will continue to support animals in the future.
