Stop the Spread of Contagious Diseases

Smallpox vaccination

Target: Governor of California, Jerry Brown

Goal: Stop unvaccinated children from attending school to prevent the spread of disease.

A recent measles outbreak in California has generated concern from many parents who are worried that their children could become ill. One parent, Carl Krawitt, is distressed about his son contracting a disease while attending school. Rhett is six years old and cannot receive vaccinations because his body is recovering from chemotherapy. If another student at his school were to contract a disease, one that could have been prevented with a vaccination, Rhett would be at risk of contracting the disease as well and dying. While it is the parent’s responsibility to take care of a child when he or she is sick, leaving a child unvaccinated is irresponsible as it puts the entire school body at risk. Sign this petition and urge Governor of California Jerry Brown to ban students from attending school until they have received their required vaccinations.

The discovery of vaccinations was considered a miracle, as many children in the United States were sick with polio or measles. These diseases are often crippling and expensive to treat. Polio in particular leaves a body permanently damaged. However, a trend has appeared in modern day where parents are refusing to vaccinate their children due to religious or moral beliefs. While these reasons are understandable, these parents are placing other children at risk. Outbreaks of certain diseases in the United States happen because a child has not been vaccinated.

Research shows that vaccinations have been thoroughly tested and are safe. True, the patient may feel ill shortly after receiving the injection, but these vaccinations are necessary for the health of our populace. Rhett, who underwent years of chemotherapy, has a weakened immune system. Doctors say that his body is not ready to receive vaccinations and Rhett’s safety against diseases is to be around children who are immune to debilitating diseases. If Rhett were to contract a disease it would most likely be fatal to him.

Please keep our schools and day care centers healthy. Sign this petition and urge Governor Jerry Brown to prevent unvaccinated children from attending school. These scenarios present unsafe conditions for other children who have a weakened immune system.

Dear Governor Jerry Brown,

Many citizens are concerned with the various disease outbreaks that are occurring in California and elsewhere in the country. These outbreaks are easily preventable if parents would get their children vaccinated. These parents should feel safe about taking their children to school; instead some of these parents have to pay for medical bills because one child did not get vaccinated and infected others on school campus.

As I’m sure you know, many parents want these children to get vaccinated. In California, an average of two percent of children not getting their vaccinations, although in some school districts this percent be as seven. These children are at risk of getting others sick. Please prevent unvaccinated children from attending school, and issue a law that requires all students, no matter what their beliefs are, to get vaccinated.
