End Livestock Suffering at Meat Industry Research Facility

Target: Robert A. Downey, Executive Director of Capital Humane Society

Goal: Expose the suffering livestock animals experience as they are experimented upon to increase profit for the meat industry.

In Nebraska a taxpayer-financed federal institution, known as the U.S. Meat Animal Research Center, is conducting experiments on livestock animals to re-engineer the animals to fit the demands of the meat industry. As the demand for meat grows, the meat industry is looking for a way to breed livestock that produces more offspring and therefore, more meat. Unsurprisingly, many complications have already risen as a result of many failed attempts to engineer the meat industry’s ideal farm animal.

Through surgery and different breeding techniques, animals such as pigs, cows, sheep and more are giving birth to more offspring than ever. However, the baby farm animals are often born weak and deformed. Piglets too frail to move are being crushed by their mothers as they roll over. Dead newborn lambs are found all over the fields after being abandoned by mothers who are exhausted from the taxing births. These mistreated livestock animals are suffering from experimental surgeries and strenuous births and their innocent newborns are dying because of the meat industry’s insatiable need to increase its profit.

This research institution is more concerned about increasing animal production than it is about animal welfare. In these experiments, profit comes first and animal welfare comes second. Sign this petition and help expose the suffering within these abhorrent livestock experiments.

Dear Robert A. Downey,

Livestock animals are suffering from experimental surgeries and much more as a result of the meat industry’s insatiable need to increase profits. The U.S. Meat Animal Research Center is conducting experiments upon animals to engineer the ideal animal that produces more offspring and yields more meat.

I understand that you have seen firsthand the suffering and repulsive mistreatment these animals experience and have even complained about this to your center director. Although I appreciate your concern for the welfare of these animals, in order to save these animals from these experiments, much more than a single complaint is needed.

This suffering and death is caused by a horrible endeavor where profit is more important than animal welfare. Making a complaint was the first step to stoping these experiments. To save these animals, you must continue to take action against these experiments and expose the mistreatment and suffering that goes on within the research center.
