Target: President Barack Obama
Goal: Devote more resources to stopping sex trafficking in the United States.
Sex trafficking is a growing business, one that continues to dominate all countries regardless of their laws. Underage girls and women are brought into this industry as hostages, and if they do not fulfill the quota that their pimps demand, many are punished. This harmful and humiliating practice needs to end. Urge President Barack Obama to devote more funds and resources to ending this horrific trade in the United States.
Girls between the ages of 12 and 16 are most at risk of being sex trafficked. These girls are snagged in various ways: the internet, as runaways, and sometimes right off the street. These girls often do not know what is going on until it is too late. Oftentimes they are taken in as hostages, and if the girls do not perform or try to escape then they are beaten or threatened at gun point.
A report conducted by ABC News showed what it is like for these girls. One woman stated that her 15-year-old daughter had run away from home and investigators believed that she was now a part of the sex trade. When investigators pulled up what they believed to be a picture of the daughter on a computer screen, the mother was horrified to see that it was indeed her daughter posing nude. Another victim of the sex trade told reporters that she found a website advertising “sugar daddys” who would be willing to buy girls what they wanted. What the victim didn’t realize was that for her to win these items she had to have sex with various customers in a hotel room.
This disgusting trade needs to stop, as it is inhumane and humiliating. These girls and young women are human beings, not items that pimps are free to use. This crime exists in America and it needs to stop. Sign this petition and urge President Obama to dedicate more time and money to ending this horrific trade.
Dear President Obama,
Many Americans do not realize that sex trafficking exists in the U.S. Many think that this illegal trade happens in faraway countries, and while this is also true, this trade takes place in our homeland as well. News outlets routinely conduct reports on what it is like for the victims of this vile trade, whether these cases involve prostitutes or the abducting of girls and boys for another family to raise as their own. This trade is sickening and the U.S. needs to put a stop to it immediately.
I am writing this letter urging you to devote more resources and funding to ending this barbaric practice. Girls are human beings, not sex dolls. These girls are taken from their homes, oftentimes threatened to stay with their pimps and forced to have sex with strangers. These girls and young women can be made to have sex with as many as 20 men per night. As a concerned human being, I implore you to do more to finally end the sex trade in the U.S.
