Target: Major General and Army Ombudsman, Yitzhak Brik
Goal: Praise military for allowing vegan meals to become more easily accessible to soldiers.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) is now providing soldiers access to vegan meals and leather-free boots on bases throughout the country. The red tape that deterred many from declaring their vegan status has dropped significantly, and vegan meals have become options at every meal time.
Major General and Army Ombudsman Yitzhak Brik said, “I believe the right to food is a basic right, and that it is only right that the IDF take the needs of the vegan community into account—as it does those of other communities.”
An estimated five percent of the population live a plant-based lifestyle and the interest in vegan foods has grown exponentially in Israel. Israel is the site of the world’s largest vegan festival and has banned animal testing on cosmetics, so it makes sense that the country’s next step would be to provide soldiers with easier access to the vegan lifestyle.
While many soldiers have expressed interest in becoming vegans, the military has made choosing this lifestyle difficult in the past. The amount of paperwork required to declare oneself a vegan was off-putting and difficult. By making vegan meals and leather-free boots more easily accessible, those who believe strongly in animal rights and making healthier choices can now do so without as much effort.
The decision to provide easier access to living a vegan lifestyle is encouraging to all who support animal rights. Please thank Major General Yitzhak Brik for supporting this decision by signing the petition below.
Dear Major General Yitzhak Brik,
I would like to thank you for supporting the decision to provide soldiers access to vegan meals and leather-free boots on bases throughout Israel. This will not only boost Israel’s image, but encourage soldiers to live plant-based lifestyles and help save the lives of many animals.
Before this decision was made, it was incredibly difficult for vegans to carry out their lifestyle while serving in the Israel Defense Forces. Allowing vegans to cut through red tape in the Army has allowed them to make better choices for animals and the planet.
Animal rights is a topic that is often overlooked in many places and it is fantastic news that Israel is being so progressive when it comes to encouraging this lifestyle. Thank you for doing the right thing and improving the lives of vegan soldiers.
