Target: Speaker of the House John Boehner
Goal: Remove law that stops federal funding for abortions
Members of Congress, notably those from the GOP, passed an anti-abortion law that prevents federal funding for all abortions, delivering a significant blow towards women’s rights. Urge Speaker of the House John Boehner to remove this law, as it violates women’s reproductive rights, by signing this petition.
The passage of this law comes shortly after the death of the bill “Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act.” This bill was shot down when lawmakers blocked its passage, and when the GOP party was concerned with how they would win the presidential election. A political aide that spoke with The Washington Post stated that the GOP was committed to helping “advance the pro-life cause” and the GOP leaders would remain committed to this cause in the future.
Elsewhere in the world, there are many countries who do not allow abortions, and this has led to the death of women and their unborn children. In El Salvador, a woman could be placed in jail if she has a miscarriage. The United States needs to remember that women have reproductive rights–that they have a say in what happens to their bodies. The government has no right to regulate a woman’s body, and cutting off funding for abortions is in direct violation of a woman’s reproductive rights. If a woman does wish to abort the pregnancy, she may seek out illegal and harmful methods to get rid of the fetus. By making abortions harder to obtain, the United States is endangering the lives of women in the nation.
Tell Speaker of the House John Boehner that this law violates a woman’s reproductive rights. Having a child is costly and if a woman does not want to have a child, she shouldn’t be forced to. No religious or government authority should have any right to tell a person whether or not they should have a baby. Support women’s rights by signing this petition.
Dear Speaker of the House John Boehner,
Recently, Congress passed a law prohibiting federal funding for abortions, making the procedure more costly and requiring states to fund the operation. This is a gross violation of a woman’s reproductive rights. No government or religious authority should obstruct a woman’s right to get an abortion, yet your party continues to place more obstacles.
There are many reasons for a woman to get an abortion, whether it be because of rape, a fatal condition, or because the mother cannot take care of the child. By removing federal funding, you are placing a woman’s life at risk. This law needs to be struck down immediately, as it does nothing but hinder a woman’s right to choose whether or not to have a baby.
