Target: Governor of California, Jerry Brown
Goal: Legalize the right to die in California.
One woman is pushing toward passing a right to die law in the state of California after her daughter chose to end her life when she was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. There are only five states in America that allow a person to take their own life, but California is not one of those states. Brittney Maynard’s mother is pushing towards passing a law that will support this right in the state, and you can help her fight by signing this petition.
Maynard’s case has caused a stir in the United States. There are those who support her actions and others who believe she should have weathered through the disease. Advocates against the law state that it would guilt those who have a medical illness into taking their own lives. Those that are in the medical field state that prescribing someone drugs to help them die would violate their oath to do no harm.
Those who are for aid-in-dying laws state that those who are terminally ill should have the ability to choose when and how they die. For Maynard, she wanted to avoid the trauma and costs that would have been involved in keeping her alive.
A terminally ill person can be in massive amounts of pain, and they also don’t want to be a burden upon their families. In some cases, the most humane option is allowing these people to die. Tell Governor Jerry Brown that people not only have the right to live, but also have the right to die.
Dear Governor Jerry Brown,
Brittney Maynard used to live in California, but her and her family were forced to live in Oregon for her to pass on. This woman is a mother and was unfortunately diagnosed with brain cancer. Instead of going through the pain and suffering that comes with cancer, she wished to end her life. This brave woman’s actions have caused a stir in America as citizens debate on whether aid-in-dying laws should be legalized.
I urge you to make this into law, as those who are terminally ill should have a say in what happens to their life. We bury our dead, we follow through on their wills, and we return to their graves to pay our respects to the dead. As human beings we should respect the right of one person to leave this world. Please support this law, as this is a humane solution to a costly and grim matter.
