Get Climate Change Denial Out of Congress

Target: Senators Ted Cruz and James Inhofe

Goal: Demand politicians educate themselves on the very real dangers of climate change.

Too many politicians–particularly in the GOP–are climate change deniers. In fact, two senators who are in charge of NASA and protecting the environment don’t believe that climate change exists. This spells disaster for our environment. How can our landscape and future be properly cared for when those who are in charge have no understanding or belief in the consequences of human action? Citizens of the United States should be concerned and rightly so. Urge these politicians, who make decisions concerning our water, crops, and environment, to educate themselves on climate change and science.

In an interview with CNN, Senator Ted Cruz dismissed climate change, stating that it was a facade and a massive hoax. Even when the interviewer pressed Cruz about the melting of arctic ice, Cruz continued to dismiss it. To Cruz climate change is merely a theory meant to fit a “perfect situation,” since scientists were concerned about global cooling in the 70’s, and then global warming during Al Gore’s run for presidency. It’s concerning that even though NASA has conducted various studies that support climate change, the very senator who is now in charge of the organization continues to deny this phenomenon.

Senator James Inhofe wants to remove all emissions regulations, stating that rising temperatures would be an asset to the United States. He states that there has not been any substantial proof of the existence of climate change, and instead states that there could be huge benefits to rising temperatures. His statement is extremely ridiculous when one considers that 97 percent of climate and non-climate scientists believe that climate change is real. Stephen Hawking even stated that he considered climate change to be as threatening as nuclear weaponry.

Demand that Senators Cruz and Inhofe get all the facts when it comes to climate change before making decisions that will hasten environmental changes and wreak havoc on our climate and our lives.

Dear Senators Cruz and Inhofe,

It greatly concerns me that as lawmakers in charge of NASA and the environment neither of you believe in climate change or the data that backs up this phenomenon. You are both climate change deniers in a nation where the majority of climate and non-climate scientists believe in climate change.

Ted Cruz, you are on record saying that climate changes everyday. This is false. Weather changes everyday, climate is an averaging of weather patterns. Your definition of climate greatly concerns me, and I seriously doubt your qualifications for your current position. Inhofe, you are on record for stating that rising temperatures are actually beneficial to humans. If you seriously consider prolonged droughts, massive hurricanes, and randomly destructive storms to be beneficial, I urge you to conduct more research into climate change.

When the majority of experts believe that climate change is real, listen to their claims. Neither of you are experts and should be taking pointers from scientists. Our future is in your hands, and yet you continue to deny the truth. I urge you to reeducate yourself on climate change and read all studies concerning this phenomenon before you enact policies that worsen its effects.
