Success: Dog Slated for Death by Deceased Owner Saved

German shepherd

Target: Best Friends Animal Sanctuary’s Chief Programs Officer, Paul Altherr

Goal: Praise efforts and success of saving a dog destined for death because of its deceased owner’s will

Bela, a healthy German shepherd in Indiana, has escaped her death sentence thanks to the valiant efforts of the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary (BFAS). Upon her death, Bela’s owner had insisted that her dog be euthanized. The German shepherd has a history of aggression and can be very difficult to manage at times, causing its owner to worry about its future without her. BFAS believes that all animals should be given a chance at a happy existence, even if they are aggressive or ill. Inspired by this belief and by Bela’s story, a few dedicated individuals at BFAS saved Bela to rehabilitate her and place her in a forever home.

BFAS works tirelessly to help problem, ill or abandoned animals find forever homes. If the sanctuary cannot find a suitable home for the animal, it allows the animal permanent residence of its expansive, peaceful grounds. BFAS is a no-kill sanctuary and believes that every animal deserves to be saved and loved, regardless of circumstance. Bela’s case was no exception. After gaining knowledge of Bela’s situation and reason for euthanization, BFAS successfully gained custody of her in order to help her find love once again.

Every animal deserves a second chance. Applaud the BFAS for saving Bela and helping her find a patient and loving home. Sign this petition to thank the BFAS, and condone its noble efforts to help all animals.

Dear Mr. Altherr,

Your non-profit organization, Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, has once again successfully helped a dog in need. Bela, the misunderstood German shepherd, likely would not have been allowed a second chance if it were not for the efforts of the sanctuary. Thanks to your dedicated staff, Bela will be adopted out to a loving home when just months ago she was sentenced to death.

Thank you for understanding and unconditionally loving all animals. Best Friends Animal Sanctuary proclaims that it wants to “save them all;” every animal deserves a second chance. I applaud you for continually abiding by and living your motto. Bela will have an amazing life thanks to the compassion and leadership of your organization.

I urge you to continue doing all that you can for animals in need.

  1. Laura Altman says:

My friends and fmsily ask me why I put myself through
the torment of reading all the horrible things that happen
to too many animals. They know how it depressed me.
I tell them I do it for the VICTORIES that sometimes
happen. I’m sure that’s why all of you do it too!!!!!

    • I know exactly how you feel, Laura ! Unfortunately, a few victories cannot cancel out all the cruelty, but then you read a story like this one and it helps…a little. People need to have more compassion for all animals, whether domesticated, or wild.

  2. Ziva Eliezer says:

You are doing a great job!

  3. I LOVE YOU BFAS! — Thank you a million times —

You did the right thing — you habitually do what is right — NO MATTER WHAT! — this is good, very good!

You’ve got my donation, for sure!
