Target: Pope Francis
Goal: Applaud Pope Francis for his plan to address Catholics around the world about the importance of fighting climate change
Pope Francis is expected to give a speech to the world’s Catholics on climate change in which he will urge them to do what they can to minimize the damage, saying that doing so is essential to the Catholic faith. Considering the fact that there are 1.2 billion Catholics in the world, this will be a huge help in the global effort to reduce the warming of the climate and stop it from being a complete catastrophe.
Pope Francis is expected to deliver his speech in September, after he distributes an official church edict to 5,000 bishops and 400,000 priests across the globe. He will urge the U.N., political leaders and faith leaders to commit to real action against climate change. This will be part of a continuing pattern of Pope Francis promoting environmentalism, who has already urged his followers not to “destroy Creation” and has called the destruction of the rainforest a “sin.”
By signing this petition, you’ll express your appreciation to Pope Francis for speaking out in defense of the Earth. It’s a huge boon to environmentalist efforts to have a Pope that not only accepts climate science, but urges the billions of Catholics to step up, and encourages the world’s leaders to make real change. Now more than ever, all leaders of the world need to work together to mitigate the damage already being caused by widespread global warming.
Dear Pope Francis,
I understand that you’re planning on instructing your bishops and priests to focus on fighting against climate change, as well as giving a speech urging world leaders to commit to meaningful action. I wanted to offer my heartfelt thanks for your efforts to bring serious attention to the issue, which has already ended many lives through weather-related disasters. The sooner we do something, the more people that can be saved from displacement, loss, and death.
As you know, there are still important leaders who are reluctant to accept the science and seriousness of climate change. Whether it’s for religious reasons or because they’re under pressure from corporations who make money off of fossil fuels, they’re slowing any progress the world is making toward reducing the effects of climate change. Considering the fact that there are 1.2 billion Catholics in the world, your support goes a long way to convincing people that action needs to be taken.
Thank you again for your commitment to combating climate change and saving the most vulnerable people of the world from losing everything. You’re a huge inspiration to so many, and I hope that other leaders around the world follow your lead and focus on one of the Earth’s most pressing issues.
