Success: Obama to Normalize Diplomatic Relations With Cuba

Target: Barack Obama, President of the United States of America

Goal: Commend opening of new diplomatic relations with Cuba

Recently President Obama took the first step on the long road to opening normalized diplomatic relations with Cuba. A recent petition called on the President to take just such measures and it seems to have finally been met with success. This move is almost as unexpected as it is welcome and we must commend the President for doing what is in the best interest of all. The time has finally come to let go of this senseless and harmful grudge.

Diplomatic relations between the United States and Cuba started to break down in the late 1950s. The tensions between the two nations began when some land owned by U.S. corporations was claimed by the Cuban government during the nationalization of the country following the Cuban Revolution. Since then, the United States has maintained an embargo on the nation in an attempt to force it to become more democratic.

The embargo has very little purpose and ultimately hurts people living in both nations. Businesses in the United States are unable to offer services or goods to the Cuban people and the Cuban people are unable to get some necessary things such as food. Cubans are not starving due to this embargo, but food in the country is not plentiful and must be carefully rationed to ensure that all can eat. President Obama’s new attitude toward the country will help U.S. to grow while at the same time allowing the Cuban people to import as much U.S. grown food as they desire. For these reasons, Barack Obama deserves our thanks and our respect. Please sign below to commend him and Raul Castro for this tremendous step forward.

Dear President Obama,

I want to personally thank you and Raul Castro for taking the first steps towards normalized diplomatic relations with one another. The decades-old embargo between the United States and Cuba is beginning to look like a petty grudge and the time is now to let it go. Allowing freer trade between the two countries would ensure growth in the U.S. and also ensure that the Cuban people have as much food as they desire.

Please continue your efforts to smooth relations with Cuba and make an active effort to work out past disagreements with other nations. Diplomacy is the only way that the world can truly come together to move forward and every conflict that is settled with words in place of violence is a step in the right direction. Once again, thank you for your efforts and please continue to do things of this nature in the future.

  1. It’s about time we stopped our inexcusable 60 years or so of aggression against the Cuban people just because we don’t like the fact that their economic system is more fair than our greedy super rich would like.
