Demand Accountability for Inhuman Torture Program

Target: Eric Holder, U.S. Attorney General

Goal: Indict George W. Bush for inaction surrounding inhuman CIA torture program

It was recently reported that the Central Intelligence Agency, or CIA, used countless inhumane and draconian torture methods on prisoners that gained them little to no information. This torture program began in the days following 9/11 and continued until 2009 when President Obama dismantled it. What this means is that George W. Bush was aware of what was happening to prisoners held by this country and he did nothing to stop it. Many of these tactics are classified as crimes against humanity and Bush must be forced to stand trial for his passive acceptance of them.

The prisoners in question were forced to suffer many different types of physical torture, including: waterboarding, stress positions, and assault. Even worse were the psychological tortures used. These included sleep deprivation for up to 180 hours, threatening to sexually assault a detainee’s family members, and threatening to murder detainees’ families. These things are medieval in their nature and the use of them in the modern world is almost unthinkable.

The CIA is also accused of hiding information on the program and misleading the White House about what was truly happening. Even if this is true, top officials knew that torture of human beings was taking place and did nothing to stop it. They may not have known the scope or the extent to which people were being tortured as they sat comfortably in their offices making hundreds of thousands of dollars, but they still knew that it was taking place and did nothing to stop it. George W. Bush in particular reported feeling “uncomfortable” when he was briefed about it for the first time. I dare say it was far more comfortable than those being tortured.

Please sign below to demand that George W. Bush be indicted and forced to stand trial for allowing these human beings to be treated worse than animals.

Dear Attorney General Holder,

Numerous top-ranking government officials, including the president at the time George W. Bush, were aware of a systematic torture program that violated the human rights of hundreds of people. The recent U.S. Senate report on CIA torture activities following 9/11 revealed the absolutely appalling methods that the CIA used to collect information from detainees. It also revealed that the CIA may have lied to top-ranking government officials about its reach and methodology. Even if this claim is true, it still means that officals such as George W. Bush were aware of human rights violations taking place at the hand of the U.S. and did nothing to stop them.

This is absolutely unacceptable. The leader of the free world was aware that his own country was torturing people and committing human rights violations but did nothing to stop them once he was briefed. George W. Bush must stand trial for these violations to show the world that the United States is not a medieval torture state. Please take the necessary steps to bring formal charges against him as soon as possible.
