Target: Australia Opposition Leader, Bill Shorten
Goal: Praise Australia for working to end the sale of dogs and cats from cruel breeding farms
The newly elected Labor government in Victoria, Australia has promised to end the sale of dogs and cats in pet stores that come from breeding farms. Instead, it will only allow shelter pets to be sold there. This move will save countless animals from suffering in puppy mills and will help find homes for the shelter pets that need them.
Puppy mills work to breed as many animals as they can. Female animals are only used to churn out puppies to be sold in pet stores and are often confined in very small spaces without exercise. Many people see the cute puppies in pet store windows and buy them without thinking about where they’ve come from, which only provides profits to puppy mills to continue their horrendous practices.
Lobbying efforts by Animals Australia and other notable animal rights groups have worked to petition local members of Parliament to ban the sale of pets from breeding farms and are finally seeing success. Voters in Australia played a huge role in helping to end breeding farms by voting in members of Parliament who took stronger stances on animal rights and getting rid of those who didn’t care.
This move will save so many lives and cut down on the inhumane breeding farms that are abundant around the world. Additionally, the state of Victoria will hopefully provide an example to others and encourage them to follow in their footsteps. Please sign the petition below to thank Australia for promising to end the sale of dogs and cats in pet stores that are supplied by breeding farms.
Dear Minister Shorten,
I would like to thank you for your party’s promise to stop the sale of pets in pet stores that are provided by breeding farms. This will save many lives and stop inhumane puppy mills from profiting from animals cruelty.
Breeding farms do not care about the conditions in which their dogs are raised as long as they churn out as many puppies as they can to be sold in pet stores. People will willingly buy cute puppies in the store without thinking about where they came from and under what conditions they were raised. The move to end this practice and replace those animals with shelter pets will greatly increase animal welfare.
Voters in Victoria, Australia made it clear that they wanted politicians to take stronger stances on animal rights and your party has listened to these voices. Please continue to make progress in animal rights and fulfill the promises your party has made. Thank you for taking action to help animals in Australia and continue to fight for animal causes.
