Target: Andrew Tyler, Animal Aid’s Director

Goal: Praise animal rights group for disclosing the number of livestock that die prior to slaughter to the public

Every year, millions of farm animals die before they even reach slaughterhouses in the United Kingdom. An animal rights group is now seeking the government’s help to introduce measures to make farmers disclose those numbers in order to prevent these deaths.

Animal Aid, an animal rights organization, looked into the issue and put together an actual estimate of the number of deaths per year. Although the numbers are not verifiable because farmers are not required to publish data on these types of animal fatalities, Animal Aid estimates that every year over 200,000 cattles, 700,000 pigs, and 38 million chickens die before they are slaughtered for consumption. Overall, they estimate over 40 million farm animals die every year. These fatalities include specific incidents where chickens drowned, pigs burned in a fire, and lambs that fell into a well. The report also includes a truck that crashed and killed thousands of chickens.

Animal Aid sought to make these numbers public for the world to see, so that the government can make a difference. Millions of farm animals die every year from diseases, fires, and road collisions. Although these deaths are distressing, they go unrecognized and no figures are ever published about them. The director of Animal Aid suggests that there should be mandatory emergency plans in place to minimize the number of animal fatalities.

Animals should not be dying due to accidents like these. Please sign this petition to thank Animal Aid for disclosing these numbers and asking the meat industry to create an emergency response plan for these incidents.

Dear Andrew Tyler,

Millions of animals die every year before they are even slaughtered for human consumption. This has resulted in a shocking number of animal deaths that seem to go unrecognized every year.

Animal Aid has done the research and has found data on these animal deaths. There are no exact numbers because neither the government nor the industry publishes the date of these animal casualties. Thank you for urging the UK government to release the number of animal deaths and offering suggestions to lessen the number of animal fatalities. Creating an emergency plan would greatly reduce the number of animals that die from floods, fires, and road accidents.

Thank you for bringing this information to the public and doing all that you can to spread the news about animals that die before slaughter.
