Target: President Barack Obama
Goal: Reduce dangerous smog emissions across the United States
A pollution reduction plan announced by President Barack Obama’s administration has many conservative politicians in an uproar. The deadline for the administration to come up with a game plan regarding smog emissions is quickly descending, but politicians are concerned about the economic costs. Smog is a huge contributor to ozone pollution, and if these emissions aren’t cut down immediately the consequences will be severe. Urge President Obama to push forth his plan to reduce smog emissions, as the health of our planet should take priority.
Ozone is only beneficial when it is high in the atmosphere, where it blocks harmful radiation, but on the ground the chemical aggravates lung problems, such as asthma and lung cancer. Those that are severely affected by the pollution are young children and the elderly. It is due to cars and factories that ozone exists on the ground, and the problem hasn’t been adequately tackled until now. The presidential administration has avoided the topic for years, but a court mandated order is forcing the Obama administration to construct a plan to cut smog emissions.
The plan is not winning over conservative politicians, as vehicle owners and factories would be required to purchase expensive equipment to meet the new emission guidelines. For Democrats, this expense is necessary. As the human population grows, emissions will skyrocket, placing the planet in more peril. The Environmental Protection Agency wishes to limit the amount of ozone to 65 to 70 parts per billion, but will propose 60 parts per billion if the public demands it.
If this plan goes into effect, many communities around the nation would be forced to change their equipment and procedures. Despite the expense of this action, it is necessary to keep our environment and population healthy and alive. Urge President Obama to cut down on ozone emissions by signing this petition.
Dear President Barack Obama,
Many environmental groups state that the current ozone emissions plan does not adequately protect the environment, and that it is outdated. Ozone emissions are only going to go up without necessary restrictions. You have the power to stop the pollution and I urge you to do so.
If ozone emissions are not limited, many of our younger and elderly citizens will suffer. There is a plethora of information regarding the health consequences of ozone and I urge you to heed these studies. Our environment and the well being of our citizens should be a priority, even if it means spending money.
