Goal: Applaud campaign to raise money for mental health charities
One in four persons in the United States suffers from a mental health challenge. Fortunately, Coty-owned beauty brand Philosophy has decided to take up this important issue with a new campaign to support mental health charities. Though that one-in-four statistic applies to both men and women, according to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, Philosophy has chosen to focus on mental health issues affecting women, such as postpartum depression and psychological trauma connected to domestic abuse. The Hope & Grace Initiative, named for Philosophy’s popular moisturizer and perfume, embodies the brand’s goal of supporting all women on their journeys to self-improvement. Thank Philosophy for taking concrete actions to address this serious health disparity.
Over the next five years, the Hope & Grace initiative aims to raise ten million dollars in support of mental health programs, with preference given to those that are community-based. Since July 2014, the brand has been donating portions of online sales to charities, but now will dedicate one percent of both online and offline sales to mental health programs.
The Hope & Grace Initiative has even earned the support of celebrities like the pop singer Natasha Bedingfield, who will be donating twenty percent of sales of her upcoming song “Hope” on iTunes to the initiative. Given that few major retailers, according to a recent article in the New York Times, have taken a socially responsible approach to their products, Philosophy will be setting a unique example with their efforts.
By signing the petition below, you can show your support for Philosophy’s Hope & Grace Initiative helping to combat stigma and provide a notion of beauty that promotes overall well-being.
Dear Ms. Scalamandre,
I am writing to applaud Philosophy’s Hope & Grace Initiative to raise awareness of mental illness and support mental health charities. With one in four persons in the United States struggling with a mental health challenge, your efforts are leading the way in reducing stigma, still a painful reality for many individuals and their loved ones. Focusing on mental health issues affecting women in particular, you are providing much needed resources to help eliminate this health disparity.
The Hope & Grace initiative only builds upon Philosophy’s unique approach to beauty, at once uplifting and powerful. Thank you for spreading a philosophy of beauty that values overall well-being and self-improvement.
