Goal: Thank medicinal marijuana dispensary for providing free medication to a child in need
Forrest, an epileptic child, has been seizure-free for nine weeks after using a free marijuana derivative as treatment. Without insurance, the treatment would have cost around $15 per day, a cost which would have forced his family into a smaller home. However, TJ’s Organic Gardens in Eugene, Oregon has provided the treatment to the boy’s family for free and has volunteered to supply the treatment to 500 more children without charge.
Forrest’s treatment is comprised of three medicinal marijuana oil capsules daily. Rather than using plants high in THC, the compound responsible for marijuana’s psychoactive effects, specially-bred plants with high levels of CBD are used to make this oil. CBD, or cannabidol, is an effective treatment for Dravet’s Syndrome, a particularly crippling form of epilepsy characterized by dozens of seizures daily. A recent survey found that the compound was able to reduce seizures or stop them altogether in 84 percent of children.
Using the medication provided by TJ’s Organic Gardens has increased Forrest’s quality of life greatly, and allows him to participate in many activities that he was unable to do before. When asked whether the new medication is helping him, Forrest stated that he “feels like a normal boy.”
Currently, most insurance policies will not cover the cost of medicinal marijuana prescriptions, leaving many families to pay the high costs by themselves. TJ’s Organic Gardens has made a huge difference in the lives of Forrest and his family, and could potentially help hundreds more who may not otherwise be able to afford this life-altering treatment. Sign the petition below to thank the dispensary for showing compassion and providing free medication to epileptic children.
Dear Travis, Jim, and James,
TJ’s Organic Gardens is currently supplying a severely epileptic child with free medication that has been effective in reducing his seizures almost completely. The treatment, oil capsules high in CBD, would have cost the family $15 per day as their insurance does not cover medicinal marijuana products.
With the pills, Forrest’s family has regained a sense of normalcy. The boy has been seizure-free for nine weeks so far and has reported extreme satisfaction with the new medication. Not only has TJ’s helped this family, but it has offered treatment to 500 other children with similar conditions. We, the undersigned, thank you for your compassion toward epileptic children and their families.
