Target: Pope Francis
Goal: Praise Pope Francis for strengthening child sexual abuse laws that led to the arrest of three priests
Three priests in Spain have been arrested for child sexual abuse thanks to Pope Francis’s push for tougher child sexual abuse laws in the Vatican. A man wrote to Pope Francis about the abuse he had suffered as an alter boy, causing the Archdiocese of Granada to immediately suspend several priests shortly leading to their arrests. Previous public outcry as well as a ForceChange petition called for accountability for the widespread child sexual abuse perpetrated by the Catholic Church. Thank the Church for finally acting on these horrific accusations.
The Archbishop of Granada, Francisco Javier Martinez, and other clerics went to Granada’s city cathedral and begged for forgiveness for the sexual abuse from the Church. The arrests will hopefully help those who have been harmed by these men to receive some closure and lead to others speaking up about their horrific experiences. In the past, some have been reluctant to speak up due to the fact that no justice ever came from it. Since Pop Francis strengthened the Vatican’s child sexual abuse laws last year, the Church has already given out more punishments for those who deserve it. This will not only lower the number of sexual abuse incidents in the Church, but also drastically improve its image.
Pope Francis has made many positive changes to the Church and this law has made huge strides towards helping those who have suffered abuse from priests to heal. Please sign the petition below to praise Pope Francis for the success this law has seen so far.
Dear Pope Francis,
Thank you for your efforts to strengthen the Vatican’s child sexual abuse laws. By strengthening these laws, people who have been abused by priests are more willing to speak up when abuse occurs because they feel that concrete actions are being taken to condemn these men.
The arrests of the three priests in Spain have surely brought relief to those who suffered abuse from these men. In the past, the Vatican has turned a blind eye towards these evil actions and it has left a dark stain on the Church’s legacy. We will now hopefully see more improvement as those who have been subjected to abuse will now be more inclined to say something. Additionally, it will hopefully dissuade priests from committing sexual abuse due to the potential repercussions they could face.
The positive changes you have implemented so far have made a huge impact on the Church and the world. Please continue to make these positive changes and hold priests responsible for their actions.
