Praise Arrest of Man Who Shot a Family Pet

Target: Sheriff Terry S. Johnson, Alamance County Sheriff’s Office

Goal: Thank police for finding and charging a man who purposefully killed a family’s pet dog

A man has been arrested after shooting a farm dog while hunting and posting the video to Facebook. Trevor Lee White from Snow Camp, North Carolina has been charged with felony animal cruelty for shooting Ellie Mae, a rescued pit bull mix, in the face. If convicted, White could face a 10-month jail sentence and lose his hunting and firearm permits.

The day after killing the dog, White posted a video of the shooting on a Facebook group for hunters, bragging that he shot a dog because it was running loose. The community responded by reporting White to the authorities and taking screenshots of the post before it was removed. Though White claimed that he shot the dog accidentally while deer hunting, evidence retained by members of the Facebook group was enough to charge him with animal cruelty.

Ellie Mae’s owners, the Dixon family, received wide support from the community on their own Facebook page. One supporter is designing shirts in Ellie Mae’s memory, while another has volunteered to create decals. These will be sold to benefit Susie’s Hope, an animal advocacy organization that aims to educate citizens on the prevention of animal cruelty.

After pit bull Susie was found after having been set on fire and left to die in 2009, North Carolina legislators introduced tougher animal cruelty penalties and citizens began to take more interest in preventing future instances of brutality against animals. Now, the laws implemented after the attack on Susie will help ensure justice for Ellie Mae. Sign the petition below to thank law enforcement for their efforts to ensure that the perpetrator of this shocking cruelty is properly reprimanded.

Dear Sheriff Terry S. Johnson,

Trevor Lee White, a 20-year-old from Snow Camp, has been charged with felony animal cruelty after he shot a dog while hunting. Though White claimed the shooting was accidental, evidence gathered from Facebook was enough to lay charges on the man, who boasted about his kill to a hunting group.

If convicted, White could lose his ability to hunt or possess a firearm and could face up to 10 months in jail. We, the undersigned, thank you for your efforts to apprehend White and ensure that he refrain from future acts of animal cruelty .

  2. It is time to look into such violent peoples mentality and the Law makers & the law abiding governing bodies to ‘REMOVE’ this man’s hunting license for the sake of safety of the innocent living beings. This man is obviously should NOT be given any permits to carry any type of wepons at all. Are the city awaiting to hear this man shot a unsuspecting human being the next time? Remove this man’s hunting license right away. There are no excuses for such violent subhumans to give the leaway to be free and roam the street freely after carrying out such horrendous violent act.
