Praise PSA Protesting Animal Entertainment Industry

Target: Musician Tim McIlrath

Goal: Praise celebrity for his public service announcement protesting the animal entertainment industry

Tim McIlrath of the popular band Rise Against recently released a public service announcement calling for the boycott of popular animal entertainment attractions such as SeaWorld and Ringling Bros. McIlrath has been a longtime animal advocate and in the two minute PSA, he expresses disgust over the treatment of animals in captivity and calls for everyone to stop giving their money to these horrible shows.

McIlrath provided disheartening statistics in the PSA, such as the fact that Orcas in the wild can live up to 50 years old, but in captivity they rarely make it past their teens. Additionally, they swim up to 100 miles a day in the wild while SeaWorld forces them to live their entire lives in small tanks. Other animal entertainment industries such Ringling Bros. are no better. McIlrath talks about the abuse these animals are put through such as using food deprivation and electro-shocks as a way of training the circus animals.

In only two minutes, Tim McIlrath managed to convey what many are ignorant of, which is that these animals do not deserve to be put through this abuse just to entertain us. They do not have a choice in the matter. McIlrath also stated that, “animals deserve a life that’s better than this. I make a choice every time I go out on stage, I choose to perform. Animals in captivity don’t get to make that choice.”

McIlrath is using his celebrity for good by spreading awareness about the animal entertainment industry and why we should not attend their shows. Please sign the petition below and thank him for allowing more people to become aware of this troubling issue.

Dear Mr. Tim McIlrath,

I would like to thank you for your efforts in raising awareness of the horrible atrocities inflicted on animals in animal entertainment shows such as SeaWorld and Ringling Bros. Some people do not realize how detrimental it is to the animals in these shows when they give their money to those who run them. By giving more money to attend these shows, more cruelty is allowed to prevail and it needs to come to an end.

Your public service announcement will undoubtedly reach many people, and I appreciate you using your celebrity status to help spread awareness about an often overlooked issue. Your long-term animal advocate status is inspiring and I hope you continue to fight for animal welfare.

  1. Hard to understand why so many attend these stupid displays of animal abuse, slavery and confinement.
