Target: President Barack Obama
Goal: Applaud United States’ donation to fund dedicated to rectifying climate change
The effects of climate change are no longer something we can ignore. From mass extinctions due to the fluctuation of the Earth’s temperature, to polar ice caps and glaciers melting at record speeds, to bitter polar vortexes bringing ice and snow to unlikely places across the country, climate change is among us. However, President Obama is vigilantly dedicated to reversing the damages we’ve made to our Earth’s climate, and his recent donation on behalf of the United States proves to be his most significant contribution.
At the height of a historic climate agreement with China, President Obama recently announced a pledge of $3 billion to the United Nations’ vastly underfunded Green Climate Fund. Established in 2010 at the United Nations Climate Change conference in Cancun, Mexico, the fund’s purpose was to redistribute resources between the developed world and the developing world to help the latter in adapting to and alleviating the impacts of climate change.
Since its inauguration nearly four years ago, progress has been, more or less, abysmal. Following President Obama’s momentous donation, other countries, like Japan, have stepped up to show their dedication to one of the most pressing issues facing our society today. The donation will help developing countries learn how to abolish bad industrial development choices and adopt a clean-energy economy – one that will stimulate growth and create jobs, while reducing carbon emissions and perpetuating resilience.
So far, nearly $6 billion has been donated to the fund from over 12 countries, bringing the foundation closer than it has ever been to its $10 billion goal in years. In addition to training and knowledge being bestowed upon developing countries, President Obama’s donation will also help to reduce highly potent greenhouse gases through innovative projects, produce low-carbon cities, promote trade in green goods and clean energy technologies, and fund pilot programs for studies in harnessing solar energy, building efficiency, and creating smart grids.

Dear President Barack Obama,
It has recently come to my attention that you made a $3 billion dollar donation to the United Nations’ Green Climate Fund. This letter is to thank you, wholeheartedly, for your dedication to combating the damaging repercussions of climate change and for moving us towards a globally conscious economy.
Climate change is no longer something we can ignore. With studies and physical evidence upon us, climate change has quickly become one of the most urgent threats facing humanity. By teaching developing countries how to become more environmentally conscious and spearheading projects in the developing world, you’ve created a system in which positive change will be felt generations to come.
Your efforts deserve to be applauded, and I express my sincerest gratitude for your donation to this groundbreaking fund.
