Success: Disney Raises Minimum Wage

Disney minimum wage increase

Target: CEO of Walt Disney Company, Robert Iger

Goal: Commend the Walt Disney Company for raising the minimum wage for its employees

The Walt Disney World Company has introduced an exciting initiative to increase hourly minimum wage for full-time and part-time workers covered under the wage increase contract. A Force Change petition posted earlier this year called for this increase in pay that will provide a better standard of living for these hard-working employees. This petition is to applaud the CEO of Walt Disney, Robert Iger, for approving such a progressive pay wage for his workforce.

By the year 2016, Walt Disney World’s minimum wage workers will receive $10 an hour. As of right now, the minimum wage in Florida is only $8.03. The minimum wage increase will be gradual by bumping up the pay to $9.00 per hour this year, $9.50 per hour in 2015, and eventually to $10 per hour in 2016. This wage increase is monumental since Disney has 23,000 full-time employees and 12,000 part-time workers who are covered by the wage increase contract. By offering employees competitive pay, Disney will be able to keep an effective and happy workforce.

Disney workers were able to vote on the pay increase. Sixty-seven percent of votes were for the increased wages. The occupations under this groundbreaking contract relate to a variety of jobs from janitors to bus drivers to housekeepers. Economists claim that Disney’s minimum wage increase might pressure other tourism companies to do the same. The pay increase will also boost the economy in Central Florida, an area that is the lowest paying major metro area in the nation. By signing this petition, you are thanking the CEO of Disney for improving the standard of living for low-wage workers.

Dear Mr. Iger,

I want to commend you for increasing the minimum wage for your hard-working employees. Not only will the Disney franchise be the “happiest place on Earth” for visitors but also for your workers. The decision to implement such a progressive plan will result in a happy and loyal Disney workforce.

With this monumental increase in minimum wage, your lowest paid employees will have a better standard of living. This action will hopefully encourage other companies in the tourism and entertainment sectors to increase the minimum wage for their workers. Disney has become a progressive leader for the minimum wage increase. Thank you for your efforts to enhance the lives of your loyal employees.
