Target: Christian Boer, Dutch Designer
Goal: Praise designer Christian Boer for his work in creating a font for people with dyslexia
Recently, designer Christian Boer was recognized for his work in creating a font-type specifically for people with dyslexia. Dyslexia is a reading problem affecting approximately ten percent of the world’s population. Applaud Boer for his work to enable dyslexic individuals to read text with fewer difficulties.
According to Boer, typical fonts such as Times New Roman are difficult for dyslexics to read clearly, as these readers unconsciously switch, rotate, and mirror the letters as they read. Boer, who also struggles with dyslexia, created a font called “Dyslexie” to enable other individuals with dyslexia to read with less confusion. Boer’s font has specific features that make reading easier for dyslexic individuals such as defaulting to a dark blue color. Other aspects of the font “Dyslexie” are that the letters are heavier on the bottom half to prevent readers from flipping letters, there is more space between letters and words, and it has slight tilts in certain letters that closely resemble others.
Dyslexie is compatible with both Apple and Microsoft systems. It is free for home users and can be purchased for schools and businesses. The font can also be added to web browsers to enable use while browsing the Internet.
By signing the petition below, you are praising Christian Boer for his revolutionary work in creating the font-type “Dyslexie.” Dyslexia affects a significant portion of the world population, and work such as Boer’s is essential to helping dyslexic individuals in overcoming their reading hindrances.
