Investigate Islamophobic Hate Crime

Target: James B. Comey, Director of the FBI

Goal: Investigate a recent shooting at a mosque and classify it as a hate crime and act of terrorism

A mosque in Southern California was recently shot at while people were inside worshipping. The local authorities are investigating the incident as a possible hate crime, and the FBI is reviewing it but has not launched an official investigation. Urge the FBI to classify the event as a hate crime and possible act of terrorism, and investigate it as such.

On the morning of Tuesday, November 4th, an unknown assailant fired shots at the Islamic Society of Coachella Valley mosque in Coachella, California, as well as at vehicles parked outside the mosque. A total of five shots hit the building itself, and though there were four people inside worshipping at the time, thankfully no one was injured. This is clearly an act of anti-Islamic hate and a manifestation of the current level of Islamophobia in America. The fact that this occurred on the day of the midterm elections is significant as well, suggesting that there could be overt political motivations for the attack, elevating it from a hate crime to an act of terrorism.

Instances like this are becoming all too common in the United States and should be treated with the utmost seriousness. Sign the petition below to urge the FBI to launch an investigation of the incident as a hate crime and possible act of terrorism.

Dear Director Comey,

I am writing you today regarding the recent shooting that took place at the Islamic Society of Coachella Valley mosque on November 4th. While I am pleased that the FBI has responded to its notification by local authorities by reviewing the incident, I urge you to do the right thing and open up an investigation of this incident as a hate crime and, possibly, as an act of terrorism.

The fact that this was a hate crime should be clear enough. Given the current level of vitriol against Muslims in this country, and the prejudice they experience all too often, it is not a stretch of the imagination that this hatred could manifest in acts of violence against Muslim communities. Indeed, the number of hate crimes against Muslims and Sikhs, who are sometimes confused for Muslims, has risen in recent years. Beyond that, however, the fact that it took place on the day of midterm elections implies that there may have been overt political motivations behind the attack, elevating it to an act of political terrorism.

Bearing these things in mind I think it is clear that this incident should be treated with the utmost seriousness. I urge you to launch an investigation of the incident as a hate crime and possible act of terrorism. Help catch the dangerous person responsible for this.

  1. They should kill all these lslamic radical losers in these mosques.Chop there heads off!!!

    • Yeah, that makes you seem sane and credible.

    • Michelle – you should not incite hatred towards people. Not all muslims are radical; infact most are against violence. The groups killing are known as militant and they should be seperated from the rest of the muslims. If a muslim was to say about Christians/Jews what your saying about them they would soon be accused of terrorism so the same rule should apply here.
