Ban the Burning of Fossil Fuels

Power Station

Target: President Barack Obama

Goal: Ban the burning of fossil fuels in the United States by 2100

The United Nations recently released a report that stated humans were behind climate change and if fossil fuels weren’t banned by 2100, the world would experience catastrophic changes to the environment. These changes can already be seen in California’s mega-drought, which has lasted several years, and experts are concerned that other disastrous consequences could be underway if something isn’t done. Urge President Barack Obama to ban the use of fossil fuel by 2100 so our planet can continue to support life without undergoing drastic changes.

A report published by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change claims that humans are the ones behind climate change. The report was crafted to help move politicians to act against a changing environment. Scientists realize the dangers of climate change, but few governments are trying to fix this problem. Currently renewable energy such as solar and wind energy makes up 30 percent of generated energy on the planet, and the report urges all power companies to bring this to 80 percent by 2050. The report also stated that from 1983 to 2012 the earth has experienced the warmest climate in 1,400 years. With our polar ice caps melting and sea levels rising, this news shouldn’t be surprising.

Carbon is the biggest contribution to climate change, as it is extremely abundant and insulates heat. What makes it abundant in the atmosphere is due to the burning of fossil fuel, such as coal. It releases this gas into the atmosphere and traps in heat. What is also upsetting is how massively complicated it is to deal with this problem. Trees can only do so much, and since humans continue to destroy forests, we cannot rely on this method for long. This is why President Obama needs to wean the United States off of fossil fuel and depend on renewable energy.

Sign the petition below to tell President Obama that the United States needs to stop burning fossil fuel by 2100 if we want to keep our planet pristine and habitable.

Dear President Obama,

Recently, the United Nations released a report urging the entire world to ban the burning of fossil fuel if we want to avoid drastic changes to our environment. By 2100, the world should be completely dependent on renewable energy such as solar and wind power. I am sure you are aware of the environmental changes that are taking place in our country, and I urge you to make sure this doesn’t happen to the rest of the world.

The United States must be weaned off of fossil fuel and instead invest in solar and wind energy. Other options such as natural gas and nuclear power are too risky and pose many health hazards. Humans have the capability of relying on other means for energy without hurting the environment, but this actions needs to happen immediately to help keep our environment balanced and habitable.

  4. Why would we ban fossil fuels we need them they are used in so many things… how would we make plastic? or roads? things would become so much more expensive because fossil fuels are cheap and abundant it would just hurt the economy even more! we are already in debt. you cant say that they are dangerous because if you follow safety guide lines (like you are supposed to) then people wont get hurt… DONT SIGN THIS STUPID PETITION! Its not worth the problems it will cause
