Thank Rescuers for Saving Dog After 150-Foot Cliff Fall

Dog Rescue

Target: Jennifer Stangel, Oregon Humane Society Technical Animal Rescue worker

Goal: Thank rescue workers for risking their lives to save a dog that fell off a 150-foot cliff

A two-year-old husky/shepherd mix named Kenny was heroically saved by Oregon Humane Society rescue workers after he fell off a 150-foot cliff. The rescue mission to retrieve Kenny was extremely dangerous, but thanks to a courageous 10-person rescue team, he was brought to safety.

Kenny reportedly broke his leash while attempting to chase a squirrel during a hike in Oregon’s Columbia River Gorge. He fell 150 feet off a nearby cliff into a creek below where he sustained serious injuries. A 10-person team from Oregon Humane Society’s Technical Animal Rescue team responded to the scene, working for almost 12 hours to save Kenny’s life. The heroic team worked all night to save Kenny, finally rescuing Kenny at 2 a.m. the next morning. They hiked for two hours up steep terrain to get to the place where Kenny fell before rescue team member Jennifer Stangel repelled down the cliff and attached Kenny to a rescue harness. He was then pulled back up and carried for the long hike back. Kenny’s owner, Mark Winans, described the hazardous trail conditions as “cold, wet and extremely dark.”

As a result of the courageous efforts of the Oregon Humane Society’s rescue workers, Kenny was recovering from surgery at home several days after the incident and is expected to be walking again in about two months. Thank the Technical Animal Rescue team for its heroic actions to save Kenny’s life.

Dear Ms. Stangel,

I would like to express my gratitude to you and your fellow Technical Animal Rescue team members at the Oregon Humane Society for your heroic rescue of Kenny, the husky/shepherd mix that fell off a 150-foot cliff in the Columbia River Gorge.

Not only did you work tirelessly through the night during the 12-hour ordeal, you also risked your lives hiking steep terrain in dangerous conditions to ensure Kenny was brought to safety. I admire your courage and determination in repelling down the cliff to retrieve Kenny, ensuring he was brought back up safely and carried back the rest of the way.

It is because of your courageous efforts that Kenny is not only alive today, but recovering safely at home with the chance to walk again in the next few months. I greatly admire your heroic actions to save Kenny and countless other animals in need, and thank you for all that you do for animals who need your help.
