Target: Matt Rice, Director of Investigations for Mercy for Animals
Goal: Demand a thorough investigation of animal cruelty at a duck farm in California
A search has been conducted on the Reichardt Duck Farm, one of the biggest duck farms in the state of California, after a video recorded by an undercover animal rights activist surfaced revealing sick and dying ducks in their pens. During the search, three veterinarians were present to examine the welfare of the ducks and the conditions at the farm, however, they all formed drastically different conclusions after the raid. Demand that another more thorough investigation be conducted at the Reichardt Duck Farm.
One veterinarian concluded that the conditions at the farm were completely immaculate and clean, while another veterinarian who found injured and dying birds in every pen claims it was the exact opposite of immaculate. This poses the question of whether or not the investigation will succeed in bringing the whole truth to light.
These ducks deserve to be protected from unnecessary cruelty and suffering, as do all animals. That can’t be done if people who are meant to care for their welfare can not come to a simple agreement on the conditions of the farm. If these ducks are in fact suffering, as the video exposed, they need a thorough investigation that divulges the truth within the duck farm. Sign this petition and demand a careful inspection of the duck farm and a thorough investigation of cruelty and suffering.
Dear Matt Rice,
I am sure you are aware of the recent search raid that was conducted on the Reichardt Duck Farm. The raid was a result of a video posted by an undercover animal rights activists who worked on the farm. It revealed that ducks were either stuck in the mesh of the pens or sick and dying. Luckily, an investigation is underway, however, I am concerned about how it is being carried out.
Authorities invited three veterinarians to examine the conditions on the farm. One veterinarian claimed the conditions were clean and practically immaculate. However, Sara Shields, an animal welfare scientist, concluded it was the exact opposite. Shield claimed that there were injured and dying ducks in almost every pen. How is it that these two qualified veterinarians can’t even come to the same conclusion?
If this is how the investigation is proceeding, I am concerned that the whole truth of the animals’ suffering will not be revealed and the farm’s benefactors will go unpunished. These ducks deserve to be protected from any suffering and cruelty, as does every animal. I urge you to take action in this investigation to ensure the duck farm has a thorough search and careful inspection.
