Target: Sheriff Ronald L. Seals
Goal: Thank Sevier County Sheriff’s Office for rescuing 50 fighting dogs
After months of investigation, authorities from the Sevier County Sheriff’s Office in Tennessee and the Humane Society of the United States rescued 50 fighting dogs from abusive and neglectful owners. Those responsible for the rescue of these animals should be thanked and congratulated for their hard work, especially the Sevier County Sheriff’s Office who provided the evidence necessary to take these dogs away from such an abusive environment.
In early 2014, the organizations involved in “Operation Off the Chain” received a call from the sheriff notifying the operation that a house they had been investigating for marijuana housed an unusual number of pit bulls that were chained up in the backyard. Reever, the deputy manager who reported this tip, worked with his team to investigate the owner. Operation Off the Chain had been looking for the owner of the property, who displayed pit bulls and other dogs on his website. The authorities believed that he was selling off fighting dogs, and they were correct.
During the raid, authorities found 50 dogs on the property, most of them chained to posts in the ground with only a plastic barrel for shelter. Some were emaciated with ribs showing, others bore scars indicative of dog fighting. There were also puppies found on the property.
Authorities arrested Mark Heatherly, Kimberly Heatherly, and their son Jacob R. Heatherly for animal cruelty and for conspiracy to commit dog fighting. They were also charged with possessing marijuana and hydrocodone. None of these arrests or rescues would have been possible if it weren’t for the hard work of the Sevier County Sherieff’s Office. Sign this petition and give them a warm thank you for removing these dogs from owners who only wished to use them.
Dear Sheriff Ronald L. Seals,
Recently your department was responsible for the rescue of 50 dogs who were being trained to fight. This heinous act disgusts me, and I am grateful that you were able to remove these animals from such horrendous owners. I realize that arresting the people involved in this operation took months of investigating, but I want you to know that many of us appreciate the work you do.
Dogs are man’s best friend, they are not meant to be fighters or killers. I thank your department for lending a hand in this operation, and I hope you will continue to help any dog in need.
