Celebrate Ban on Animal Tested Cosmetics

DCF 1.0

Target: Cabinet Minister of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Dr. Harsh Vardhan

Goal: Commend Indian ban on imported cosmetics that have been tested on animals

Within the last year, India has taken a bold stand on animal testing. Not too long ago the country banned cosmetic testing on animals within its borders. Now, India has placed a ban on all imported cosmetics that have been tested on animals. India is the first country in South Asia to ban the import of such products. This ban is a positive step in the animal rights movement.

The ban is scheduled to begin in mid-November. India’s chapter of The Humane Society International (HSI India) has been pushing for this ban for a long time, advising those who could make the ban happen. The decision was instituted by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MHFW) and stands as a historical decision in a country well on its way to respecting the rights of animals in all industries. It is the hope of many, citizens and organizations alike, that India bans animal testing in all of science. Animal testing, on all fronts, is considered archaic because there are countless, state-of-the-art methods that do not harm living things, and yet yield the same, if not more trustworthy results.

HSI India’s advice to the Cabinet Minister of the MHFW has proven to be well received. Applaud the Cabinet Minister for understanding how cruel animal testing is and issuing this ban.

Dear Minister Vardhan,

I am writing to applaud the MHFW’s decision to ban the import of cosmetics tested on animals. Only five months prior to this ban India ruled that cosmetic animal testing would no longer take place within its borders. India is on a fast track to treating animals with more respect in all industries. This is very good news. I understand that HSI India has influenced your decision by bringing to light the many atrocities animals face every day in the cosmetic industry. Thank you for listening to HSI India’s pleads.

Animals are dejected and abused in many other industries. Many animals destined to be dinner are treated so horridly, their fates are hard to imagine. Animals are tested and tortured alive for medical use. I urge you to continue this gracious trend and implement an end to animal testing in all industries within India. You are on the right track; a track of compassion and understanding.

Thank you for all you do to help animals.
